I don't like rooting for the big market clubs but the Dodgers do it right. They're competitive every year because they're amazing at player development. They never draft high or have the biggest budget for the latin free agent market (signing 16 year olds, team cap based on standings) yet consistently churn out prospects that become stars or used as trade fodder. They sign cast offs like Justin Turner and Max Muncy and turn them into stars. And when they need to go for it they pull the trigger for difference makers (Machado, Betts, Turner, Scherzer).

Still amazing how a 100+ winning team was in the wildcard game. :)

Dodgers won 106 games and had to play a winner take all one game elimination. Doesn't seem fair somehow.
Totally agree, not sure why they don't do a top 8 or 10 finish for the whole league and play that way where the top team plays the bottom and so on.

I'm no fan of the Dodgers but with 106 wins they should have been given an automatic playoff berth.

I'd like to see a Milwaukee/Tampa World Series. They are two of the smallest markets. The sponsors would be pulling out their hair.

What two teams would you like to see in the WS and why?

Same two teams for me. Interesting that the Brewers have employed the following at first base in the last seven seasons: Adam Lind, Eric Thames, Justin Smoak, Daniel Vogelbach and Rowdy Tellez, all of them former Blue Jays. They can’t have the Jays current first baseman.

They earned the berth with 106 wins and the 2nd best record in baseball. Its idiotic how division winners with less wins get a higher seed in the playoffs, that has never made sense to me.

It was Tellez's 2 run blast that won them yesterday's game.

your point is valid.....but Division leaders and the wild card, system, particularly the 2nd wild card which was implemented a few years ago, keep teams in contention until well into Sept, thus engaging the fan base, who in turn attend games, buy merchandise and spend money.....its all about commerce , nothing less..imo

Some of you are too young (as am I) to remember when both the Dodgers (Brooklyn) and Giants were in New York. The Giants played at the Polo Grounds.

"One of the oddest features at the Polo Grounds were the deep dimensions in straight away center field. The wall was so far away from home plate, at 483 feet (147 m), that few players ever hit home runs over it. Before its 1923 reconstruction, only Babe Ruthever reached the centerfield stands; after 1923 only four players would reach the distant centerfield bleachers."

BTW: There was a time when Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Duke Snider all played for New York based teams at the same time.

Oh damn! No runs scored in games 1 and 3.

Oh well, at least those thieving Rays lost. You do not steal a man's crib sheet. That is a big no no.

When I lived in Montreal, the DUKE was on the Expos broadcast team and he would often tell us anecdotes about his playing days in Brooklyn and Mantle and Mays were sometime mentioned as fellow centerfielders/competitors. The Dodgers and Yankees were involved in several WS in the 1950's.

Loved the Duke and Dave broadcasts. Nothing like siting on the porch on a hot summers day with the radio on and listeneing to an expo's game.
