Not necessarily, Quebec got in that trade:

Steve Duchesne
Peter Forsberg
Ron Hextall
Kerry Huffman
Mike Ricci
$15M cash
1993 1st round pick (#10-Jocelyn Thibault)
future considerations (Chris Simon 1994 1st round pick (#10-Nolan Baumgartner))

Jocelyn Thibault was part of the Patrick Roy trade. Sundin was traded to Toronto before the move to Colorado. Had the Lindros trade never happened, Quebec/Colorado would have not gotten those players or that money hence there is no telling what would have happened.
All those assets you mention with the exception of Forsberg really would not impact Quebec that much. Lindros would have had a stellar career with Quebec/Colorado and a shoe in for HHOF.

On the other hand, we're still only talking minor league players who may or may not develop, may get hurt or simply not live up to their hype. And then we had Datsyuk (171), Gilmour (134), Zetterberg (210), Brett Hull (117), Theo Fleury (166). The best luck in the draft cannot overcome weak scouting and bad GM-like Edmonton... or the Leafs.
The Leafs scouting has been re-booted. With Hunter at the helm.

This came back to haunt Lindros, had he stayed in Quebec which moved Colorado with players like Sakic and Sundin (before the trade to the Leafs) he would have won a cup.
No they wouldn't, Lindros has always been a toxic element. The Flyers (a team I hate) would have gotten Forsberg, with the core they had they would have won the Cup several times.

Lindros had a stellar career with the Flyers as well. Head injuries did him in. With his style of play, that would have happened with any team. Those assets turned around a franchise going nowhere and contributed to 2 stanley cups and years of dominance. Colorado probably would not have gotten Patrick Roy without that trade.

I doubt the league is happy with McDavid in a marketing wasteland like Edmonton. Connor looked miserable about the result as well.
Do you blame him playing in front of the worst defense in the league. He probably knows what Taylor Hall has been going through, his body has taken the equivalent of abuse of an 8 year veteran.

Malkin..2004( actually #2 overall)
Crosby..2005
Staal..2006
won the cup in 2009...
thats not years...thats called good coaching and management
all young superstars in the making

whats Edmontons excuse?
They've had or will have 4....#1 overalls in 6 years...THAT is fucking pathetic...and as I said in my other post...ITS upper management that is the blame for the shit show in Edmonton.
..
That's too simplistic. The management definitely bears a lot of responsibility for the team not improving at all. However it is also obvious by now that Hall, Eberle & Nugent-Hopkins are not in the class of Crosby & Malkin nor will they ever be.

It is however undeniable that youth & draft picks can not change a team's fortunes by themselves. You still need to acquire leaders and role-model players. Not just role models in the dressing room or on the plane. but guys who can still command the respect on the ice by outplaying the young guys more than a few times.

Lindros never learned to skate with his head up, that's what did him in. He didn't have to until he got to the pros, by then it was too late.

There is a way to get past the tankorama we've endured this season. Have the bottom 5 teams get a 10% shot at the first round pick each. Then make it order of depreciating percentile for the rest of the teams who didn't make the playoffs.

No way. They got Forsberg in that trade. He was a major part of those cup wins.

got to wonder if Lindros snubbing Quebec in the draft has a bearing to date on him not getting into the hall of fame.

One thing the Lindros saga reminded us is that hockey is a team sport. No player is bigger than the team. It's a cliche, but too many forget too often. It's nice to have hockey demigods like Gretzky or Crosby or Mario on the team, but without a mobile defense, decent goalie and third and fourth line of note, just forget it.

Absolutely. These owners are a tight bunch and unless they're getting their cocks sucked they're going to hold their grudges. And I think Eric is too old, fat and proud these days to get on his knees.

I agree, while I didn't like what Lindros did but that was a different time in the world. The oilers organization is a disgrace, they are so poorly managed and coached its not even funny. Look at the first rounders they have had in recent years and there's no improvement.
Looks like the Oilers are getting ready to clean house at the top. Many of the GMs and coaches that are available are being interviewed so if they finally make a big change at the top it would send McDavid and all the other young talent that ownership is serious about turning things around. It would be a good move for the youngsters.

The Oilers problem lies with the owner, he loves to hang on to his boyhood idols, McTavish has to go, stop using former Oilers as front office management, hire some real hockey people. The owner even wanted Gretzky as president of the Oliers but Gretz turn it down.
