Isn't Carney the Chairman of Bloomberg? Seems like a pretty good gig to me. Trudeau isn't going to leave anything for his successors to salvage.

Canada's anemic growth for several years and its future growth prospects are hurting the Liberal party. Some of us have been discussing this for awhile now and others have been dismissing it.
Carney is Wish Casting. If, and big if, he decides to end with a political carreer he will wait to come in after the Liberals have pulled their pants up walking slowly back from behind the woodshed. And any other contenders are voted out of office and he can come in as savior and prolific fundraiser.

Carney is a smart guy, if his arrogance doesn't lead him down the Ignachiff path he can spend the next four years securing his spot in a guaranteed riding, doing media and podcasts, securing donors, and getting ahead of his image projection.

He is about as engaging as Igantiev on valium, the liberal party are 3 elections away from having a chance at governing again. That is how badly they have enraged the electorate

Frank was a fuckin' stalker. I also got tired of his daily bombardment of so-called Twitter experts.

Some of us who knew him longer knew he campaigned for Hamas and Hezbollah here years ago. He was deeply sympathetic to Iran. He reluctantly denounced Iran's treatment of women because he knew that didn't sell with the membership.

I could see progressives taking a shine to a guy who wants to expand government and other causes even if he's quite a bit obsessive. I also have no issue with people not liking the United States itself. However, Western Democracy is a far bigger concept. Don't champion countries and organizations who would happily take our freedoms away. (That's not directed at you.)
The best thing for the political forum if he's gone, what a wacko.

I agree on the Charisma. It's going to be a factor. It's not my expectation he wins as leader, just that he stabilizes the party after the up and coming shellacking.

PP will make his rich friends richer, exactly like Trump. and cut everything possible for common people. PP is a lifetime politician. He knows the game. Nothing good will come out of him.
Everyone likes the sound of less government spending and lower deficets, until it affects them. Cut the other guys government programs, not mine.

But you do have to wonder, was necessary for Trudeau to increase the size of government by something like 40% since he was elected.

Look no further than the annual(?) meeting between the Prime Minister and the Premiers of all the provinces. Each Priemier comes with a long list of funding they are looking for from the Federal Government. Then you have the municipalites. Whenever Mayor Chow announces a big program for T.O. she assumes she will get funding from the Federal and Provincial Governments, even if they haven't committed to it. Add to that special interest groups who want Federal funding for everything from sick children to baby wales. Domestic industry, foreign governments........everyone has their hand out for federal money and if they don't get it say goodbye to votes in the next election.

Damn, but 9 years of Trudeau did not achieve this magnitude of a revolving door as this leader did so in 4 years:

But the difference was that Trudeau made a mistake by not assigning " Very Fine Guys" into the cabinet and then forcing out these cabinet members, by designating them as being "fired" and "how terrible they are"!!

.
Going forward they will not have financial flexibility to play favourites
Justin has spent all the discretionary money for the next several decades

the GST was required to clean up Trudeau Sr. debt mess
Trudeau Jr. mess is much much bigger

HST (2.0) >>>>17 to 20% ?

And that's what makes Justin horrible. He does everything for votes and public praise.

He'll even throw his trusted party members and close friends to the wolves to save his image.

An unsavoury individual he is.

Trump has nothing to do with this thread.

What is wrong with you? Can't you focus on Canada for two minutes?

I don't think massive egos and political betrayal are really all that unusual for politicians.

Please correct me if I am wrong because I am not a Canadian.
The NDP can basically call for an election as soon as possible if it desired.
Trudeau stands as the leader of the Liberal party because the Liberal PMs still back him (for now).
I'm sure there is more nuance to it and would certainly like to hear it.

PS- I'm not defending Trudeau. Just sayin'......you know.

He will be back. Give him a month or so and he will reappear.
That's the unfortunate thing. I think there are quite a bit of trolls coming back to life. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some prolific members here have dual accounts to amplify their opinions and to have a back-up plan.

I haven't been active over at MERB for awhile, but I don't like their heavy-handed moderation. Hell, they would modify (not just delete) political and "Lounge" discussions to suit their inclinations. However, it does make sense that MERB bans or suspends an IP address.

From my perspective, this increase accomplishes a short-term sugar high. You artificially increase middle class employment. It's stimulative to the economy as it adds to gross consumption. Lastly, you add to an army of Federal employees indebted to the Liberal party.

Liberals don't ask who's paying for this and what does it to do to the private economy.

No, not the feminist Trudeau? He has a perfect record for treating women in his cabinet with respect. LOL
He is feminine.

Not sure about a feminist. I don't think he knows the difference. Probably wants to make a new letter or symbol to put in the LGBT.... word/symbol salad.
