That still doesn't answer o & g's question of "How"?
I'd want to know her in hee personal life in her home country.
I've been to orphanages and charities in the comunas of Medellín, the barrios of Cartagena. I've taken medical supplies to the villages of the kuna on the islands of Panama. There's a lot of suffering in some of these countries, plenty of people who need help. Oh the flip side, I've had to go to the hospital with my upper middle class friend in Cali, and to emergency with my very upper class friend in San Salvador. And these are the people who do not need my help, they have private insurance and get top notch care in the best hospitals and clinics in their countries. A girl who worked in Toronto, charging the rates girls earn here for years should be returning back to her country and be fabulously wealthy by their standards. And therefore have the same quality access as my friends.
And to top it off, the charity must be anonymous for privacy concerns? There's a dozen bells ringing in my head right now.
Congratulations to the op for having a good heart, better person than I am it seems. For me there's a disconnect however, something missing in the story we've been presented.
