Scored his frist goal tonight, and it should also be his last...I guess he didn't learn from his suspension, he sucker-punched Blake tonight.
It was a cheap shot by Downie, especially since it was against a non fighter like Blake. On the other hand, Blake has been known to get under guys skin (not so much this year with the Leafs)champ said:I am a Flyer fan and knew this fellow was trouble when people in the Flyer organization said he was cut in the Bob Clarke mold. Coincidently Bob Cole and Greg Millen were talking about him prior to the punch being sent to the Phantoms to learn how to keep himself from going "over the edge" with his temper and emotions.
I will say though that the linesmen did Blake no favours by not properly tieing Downie up in that scrum. The league is lucky Blake was not seriously hurt.
I never liked the guy, even with the Cdn Juniors. Not looking forward to his "career".21pro said:he was loved as a world jr. running and charging after every czech, swede and russian back into their northeastern europe outhouses...
As if that forced Downie to punch a guy in the eye who was defenceless.Planet said:But I would place most of the blame on the linesman for not having Downie tied up.
So if a linesman held Blake up and Downie was unrestrained he took as many shots as he likes at Blake and the blame would be on the linesman. Now I get it.Planet said:most of the blame on the linesman
dude...no one is saying the linesman shouldn't have done a better job of tying him up...Planet said:Players try to throw punches in scrums all the time. The difference this time is that the linesman wasn't doing his job. I'm not the only one who pointed out that the linesman screwed up.
How many times do you see guys continue to try to throw punches in fights after both fighters have gone down to the ice, and they are less able to defend themselves? I guarantee you Downie is not the only one who would do that.
Unfortunately the NHLPA has NEVER come to the aid of a member who gets injured by another member. All they do is come to the aid (appeal a suspension) of the perpetrator when he is disciplined by the league, e.g. they never even made a peep about Bertuzzi on Moore or Simon on his victims. Maybe it will change with the new director but I doubt it.bennyboy68 said:the nhlpa should step in...it's an assault on another one of it's members...
if anything, they should defend their own rather than circling the wagons and protecting pieces of sh*t like downie...

We'll have to agree to disagree. Who is that quote from?Herodotus said:C'mon, blaming the linesman in this case is ridiculous.
