Joan Rivers is very funny, she's a full decade younger than Bea Arthur who was doing stand up in the 1950's. The show The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is partially based on her life.

Bea Arthur was the only woman allowed to roast Frank Sinatra - different world.

JR was also doing stand-up and comedy records in the 50's and I think she started younger. I was barely around then myself, though, so I won't argue the point. Remember Totie Fields?

Jerry Lewis said women are not funny. He was still in good health when he made that comment, he was great in The King of Comedy but he and Sandra Bernhard didn't get along.

I don't get the appeal of Amy Schumer, her comedy is fake and her acting is atrocious. I Feel Pretty is the worst film of 2018. Sarah Silverman isn't that funny either but she proved in Louie and Masters of Sex that she's a decent actor - not just a common schlepper.

There are some good female comics, not just SJW darlings.

Lewis was a pompous prick always stealing the limelight always wanting to be ''look at me'' . Loved to show off as well ie: conducting the band didnt know wtf he was doing. Milton Berle was another scene stealing prick likely a( CD as well) Although his schlong was legendary.
