Yes good choice shack, I tried to find out if they were related, Ronnie Earl is actually older than Steve Earle. He looks younger, he doesn't have a drug history - no relation.

I don't think Ronnie is related to Steve Earle.

Ronnie's birth name was "Horvath". His parents were Jewish Holocaust survivors. He was born in Queens, NY, in 1953.

He is deeply religious, but I don't think he practices traditional Judaism, and may be more involved with Christianity since quite a while.

He has suffered various illnesses and drug addictions, but despite that is one of the finest and most spiritual blues guitarists even today.

Steve Earle has lived the hard life as well. He had a terrible drug addiction that nearly killed him. He couldn't deal with fame.

He sang about Vietnam vets going into the drug trade, I assumed he was born in the late 40's but his bio says 1955...6 days older than Eddie Van Halen. He collaborated with his son Justin Earle writing songs. Justin Earle died of a drug overdose on August 20 of this shitty year. Steve has compiled songs that he wrote for a commemoration album.

From The Wire.
