While this song originally has Daltrey singing the lyrics, it doesn't need him when Townshend and Beck play it with an orchestra backing them up.

The film Whiplash hasn't aged well, Damien Chazelle's follow up films were crap. I don't know much about jazz, I had to hear Caravan as it was intended.

Yes. And each had it's own volume control. One master tone control. You would get the out-of-phase tone by turning the volume up full on the bridge pickup, and then turning up the volume full on only one of the neck of middle pickups, while keeping the other pickup volume totally off.
