Ferrari finished second, Lando third. Bet neither guy thought they would do so well.
I don't know about that. Monaco is next to impossible to pass. So they finished pretty much where they started . Bottas had some back luck with a stripped front wheel lug which led to Ferrari and McLaren to move up 1 spot. Not to mention Charles tough break.

Russel in, Bottas Out...why wait till 2022. Merc needs to shake up Lewis if they want to negotiate a new deal with him

I can see this happening but until it's official, just rumours.
It won't happen now because Williams won't release Russel from his contract.

On the highway of life
Story going around that Mazepin may be yanked from his seat by mandatory Russian military service. None of the usual reputable sources, so I'm not posting any links.

Roadhog, you got me all worked up, Charles Leclerc in pole position?!

I'm surprised that Lance Stroll would make such a mistake. He accelerated out of the chicane too soon and lost control of the car, he's out of the race.

Here's some more vintage Formula 1 that can be viewed online or downloaded:

I'm currently uploading the 2017 Azerbaijanian Grand Prix, in high definition. I edited the four and a half hour long Sky Sports broadcast; I didn't think anyone would want to see more than an hour of pre-race, including the National Anthem of Azerbaijan. I also cut the post race press conference, but kept the podium ceremony and post race brief driver interviews. I hope to be able to post that one later today.

These videos take a few minutes to load, so I recommend that you open them in a separate window, then minimize it until you hear the audio.

The 1981 Canadian Grand Prix has audio/ video synch problems, noticeable after about 40 minutes, and progressively worse as the race continues. A guy on a now defunct private torrent site named theempire.bz fixed the audio/video synch, and reuploaded the file, but I don't currently have access to that version. I hope to be able to post it here eventually.

This is the race where Gilles Villeneuve drove several laps on a wet track with the car's nose and front wing bent in front of his face. Commentary by Ron Reusch and Jacky Stewart.

Enjoy!

Maybe it was just me, but I was stunned when both Lance & Max crashed on the main straight that the VSC was not enabled. For the longest time drivers still blew past them going nearly full out.
Stunned Race Control blamed the drivers for ignoring the double wave yellow flags and not themselves when they can slow the cars by 60% at the flip of a switch.

That said, I am glad Checo won and Vettel second. It will be great to see Max and Lewis under even more pressure at the next race .

When Frank Williams was in charge, and Williams was competitive, he wasn't concerned about the Driver's World Championship; he only cared about the Constructor's Cup. This is why Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, and Damon Hill were all on different teams the year after winning a driver's title with Williams, (Alain Prost retired). Frank did like Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, and Piers Courage. Since Williams became a second division team, at least one of their drivers every year has had his seat because he was paying the team for the spot.

If Mercedes wants Russell on the factory team, he'll move. The price might be high, but Mercedes has deep pockets. The master of signing young talent to long term F1 deals primarily for the purpose of selling the contract to a front runner was Ken Tyrell. If he hadn't been killed in a Sports Car race at Spa in 1985, while in his second F1 season, Ken would have been handsomely compensated for Stefan Bellof. That man was a phenomenal talent but like Gilles Villeneuve, stupidly brave.

Pirelli will be under the microscope this week. 2 blown tires(Lance and Max).
Pirelli are now owned by the Communist Party of China - make of that what you will. It's been a hot mess for them and Supreme Leader Xi has ordered a divestment of foreign takeovers.
