So my MD is willing to prescribe marijuana for sleep apnea. He uses it and he says it makes him mentally "elevated"

What mental effects should I expect? Will I be more or less mentally alert? What about my memory? What about my ability to socialize? Will I become more talkative? Will I to be seem to behaving silly to non users?

I will be taking dope before sleep so I will not be stoned during day unless I so choose

I'm definitely 420 friendly (and friendly to a lot more things too), but I think your doctor is misprescribing marijuana in your case.

A major problem with sleep apnea is that you tend to have trouble concentrating during the day. Marijuna before bed makes that worse because it inhibits REM sleep (you do feel like you had a good sleep though).

I'd get a second opinion -- and be wary of a doctor who's in prosletizing mode about any drug (except perhaps shrooms/LSD/ibogaine). Marijunana helps a lot of conditions but you have to take it when it makes sense.

Here
Pot is a gateway drug.
Yep... a gateway to much better sexual experiences.

Also a gateway to a more open minded, less adversarial way of thinking.

Yoga Face: Google is your friend... any and all questions asked and answered on the Web, and some that you would not even dream of asking, too!

In my experience, it is very important to recognize and understand the very fine line between use, misuse and abuse.

I prefer not to give out that info
Shit..... I can't find a doctor who doesn't hate pot and love big Pharma.....I already use it to sleep but I'd rather have a prescription so I don't get charged. Pot actually delays and/or prevents alzheimers. I would try a more sativa blend so you maintain a clearer mental facility.

I used to use it recreationally. I found it difficult to sleep without it after a while.

If you have sleep apnea start with getting a sleep test and lose weight.

The sleep test may show a connection to position you sleep in and sleep apnea.... so for example if it happens when flat on your back get a body pillow to prevent that position.

i heard otherwise. that pot fucks up your memory and makes you alot slower in the long run, as you get older.

There are places that teach you about dope IE how to cook with it and will get you in touch with MDs that are dope friendly. There is one east of Danforth and Broadview north side. Do not know name and it is just opening. Once you get certificate you can join and take their classes

Its a medicine that is highly used as a recreational drug. It is alot less damaging to your health and well being than. meth, speed or opium....or as your doctor and pharmacist would refer to them as diazapenes, amphetamines and pain killers.

As far as doping is concerned like any medication if you abuse it and take large doses sure it will slow you down mentally and physically.

There are basically two main families of weed sativa and indica. Indicas are generally used for sleep.

Each strain of those two major family are grown differently. and can effect you differently too.

So there is no way to give you a general side effect list because this is something you have to figure out on your own.

one strain might make you fall a sleep right away another might not.

Basically wherever you are buying from they should be knowledgeable in what they have and what they can recommend.

From your link:
"However, because of its addictive properties and unknown long term effects, its usage today is controversial in the medical community. While medical marijuana has been shown to reduce nausea in people undergoing chemotherapy and help people living with HIV/AIDS some medical professionals are wary of using it as a treatment method."

I think once you start using it for sleeping, you're sorta hooked.

Which is the one that doesn't make you paranoid? Someone I know complains that when she smokes it, she gets paranoid.
I can't smoke it it makes me so sluggish its not funny.

I occasionally smoke a joint with friends and the effects are to make me feel paranoid, tired, unfocused and all around stupid.

I have a weird love/hate relationship with weed. On the one hand, I recognize that it can be quite relaxing and enjoyable and much less hard hitting on the body than alcohol, alcohol is just about the worst thing to have before sleeping, it inhibits deep sleep, never mind the getting up to take a leak.

But on the other hand, I like vigorous exercise and weed isn't really conducive to that. I've gone to a vaporizer as opposed to smoking a joint or bong hits, but just don't find it as satisfying.

That's my main issue with the whole pot movement thing, how in any way could it be good to inhale burning substances? Combustion is proven to release all kinds of nasty chemicals, there is no getting around that.

The pot might cure one thing, but burning it and inhaling it can cause other problems. I think edibles and vaporizers are the only way to consume it and a doctor who prescribes it with you smoking it can't really be taken seriously, can he?

Please!...... it is a conservative site and they don't want to rile the big pharma lovers, they included a line more suited to "Reefer Madness". Pot is not addictive at all. Sugar is far more dangerous and addictive , yet it is everywhere and continues to kill. Killing score- Sugar : Millions , Pot: zero
