Definitely there's a cultural reason behind it. Asia and India are totally different in terms of traditions, culture and religious values. No matter how advance or modern a country is, you still have to follow some traditions.
LOL.

India is in Asia.

It's funny how over here the term 'Asian' tend to refer to one kind of Asian, mainly East Asians - Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, when Asia contains numerous ethnicities, cultures, and subcultures....

I agree as it is like comparing the British to the Europeans, and then mentioning how different they are in terms of traditions, culture and religions. Are the British not Europeans?
Not sure why we in Canada were taught to consider the East Indians to be culturally separate from the Asians.
The EI are even bracketed with the Pakistanis and the Sri Lankans. In places like England, the East Indians and Pakistanis are considered to be Asians, and the Chinese are called Chinese. In the last century it was okay to do so, but now with numerous ethnic minorities, we in Canada should be more savvy in the way we identify more precisely the ethnicity of the various cultures. Although we are North Americans, only those from the USA are considered to be Americans and we say that we are not Americans, although in reality we are.
After all the Croats will take exception to being lumped in the same ethnicity as the Serbians. Same with the Russians and their neighbours from Ukraine. But all of them will identify themselves as Europeans.
I know that even the Irish (from the Republic of Ireland) will take exception to being identified as British and the Protestants from Northern Ireland think that they are not just Irish but Northern Irish or British.

There are a few more South Asian Escorts in the U.K. than in Canada. However I add the following caveats: the ones I'm aware of are all British born, there is but one I'm aware of that I'd describe as beautiful (and she charges accordingly) the rest can be politely described as having a few extra pounds.

This is a shame since I find North Indian Women quite attractive.

I've heard that too about England, however I think they also lump all East Asians as "Chinese", but then again so do most people in the Americas too.
When people from the USA are referred as Americans, I believe it's from the "A" in USA and not the "A" in North America. Otherwise what else would you call people from the USA as a whole. Canada = Canadian, Mexico = Mexican, United States of America = ?

It's all very complicated and misunderstood. It's like saying "Hispanic"... which is not a race but many people assume it means strictly Mexican or Southern Native Americans. Central and South America are primarily inhabited by people of European descent (from Spaniard and Portuguese conquests), and outside of Brazil (where the language spoken is Portuguese rather than Spanish), they are all Hispanic. Hispanic just means people from Spanish speaking countries in "Latin America".
