All true. Except, by the time the jet ME arrived, Germans were out of fuel and out of pilots. The V weapons were a technological leap, but the British rendered the V1 impotent by using polished Mustangs and massive AA fire. V2, while superior to anything, had short range and a guidance system only good enough to attack large urban areas. The electroboat U-Boats were a technological marvel. None of them were completed in time to make a difference. And even if they did, so what? Same story with tanks. Nazis had the best tanks, but they could never produce enough of them. The moment Hitler declare war on America, he sealed his faith. The German economy had no more chance against the American economic output than Japan.
All true jcpro.

And the Germans were working on the atomic bomb too, but thankfully, it was too late.

Eating crow on this one. Dunkirk is crushing it critically and at the box office.
Not only is it a smash hit, it's becoming a cultural phenomenon. According to CBCNN, tourism along the Dunkirk - Calais - Ostend coast has tripled. French and Belgian merchants are making a killing on souvenirs.

There is one key element that saved the evacuation, the British had a surplus of depth charges remaining from the First World War. The sea skirmishes fought in such a narrow area took a huge toll on Nazi U-boats.

Also for Hardy this is his third outright hit, some of his films have not been box-office hits but have done very well on VOD. That makes him along with Nolan very hot properties in Hollywood. For Hardy this is vindication, he left Tinseltown in the early 00's as a degenerate junkie. And you have to admit his final scene in the film is priceless.

Gary Oldman was considered for Kenneth Branagh's Captain Bolton, but he had a scheduling conflict.

Even though they were hit hard by Conservative austerity measures, Brits under 40 want to Remain. Maybe the good will being generated from Dunkirk and the upcoming Darkest Hour will make Brits rethink Leave.

Gillian Anderson is like a fine wine: Stand Up to Cancer add.

I just saw the movie. There were some good scenes, but the dialogue I felt was very week, and some parts just didn't make sense to me.

What didn't make sense to you bbl, maybe I can offer some insight.

Some have suggested, what was the point of having Tom Hardy in the film when the part could have been played by any actor and at a fraction of the price. Tom's stipend for the film isn't even half of what he was paid for The Revenant. Nolan helped to create Hardy, he bought himself insurance against the film potentially failing.

It was an okay movie. Not great. And I like WWII movies. Very tense, not much dialogue. Didn't feel like a whole lot happened.

Don't get me wrong, I would still give it a thumbs up. But it didn't blow my socks off.

After the fact I did discover that the admiral on the Mole was based on a real life character who was a Canadian from Montreal. His ability to speak english and french was invaluable. Unfortunately he temporarily left the Mole and while returning his ship was sunk by German aircraft and he was killed. You'd think we would hear more about him in Canada (maybe one of those Our Heritage commercials).

My thoughts are exactly what Keebler said. One part of the movie I didn't understand was they were showing stuff happening on the beach, and the civilians boats crossing the English channel during the day, but show some of war ships getting sunk but it was at night.

Keebler what was the name of the Captain from Montreal (Admirals command fleets of war ships), I came up zilch on Google.

The one item that saved the evacuation was the surplus of depth charges the Royal Navy had from WW I. Obviously Nolan had budget restraints, there were a lot more Destroyers at Dunkirk than what is shown in the film. The beached soldiers weren't the primary target of the Luftwaffe, they were going after the Destroyers. The English Channel is a defense dream, any U - boats caught within inevitably gets sunk.

While a visual and auditory treat, with some great story-telling through use of those tools, I wouldn't call it the masterpiece many are making it out to be. Worth seeing in IMAX though.

Gary Oldman, my favourite actor. I look forward to seeing Darkest Hour too.
