MTG is a rich woman from a town near Augusta, she represents the most downtrodden area of Georgia. The Northern border between Georgia/Alabama has been described as an economic Black Hole. It's a no man's land between the affluent cities of Atlanta and Chattanooga. It's as poor as any district in Mississippi. It's an area stuck in post Civil War times.

MTG primaried with the other GOP contender for the seat - a well qualified local surgeon with a long record of pro social local activities. And she beat him easily. It's an unsophisticated district with a lot of anger.
Gerrymandering is a beautiful thing, MTG's district has been expanded to include Cobb County, the Western edge of the Greater Atlanta Area.
Cobb County went Democrat but their votes represent only 30% of the District, I have a hunch that Dr, John Cowan is also from Cobb County. Move north from Cobb County, the region becomes more desolate and destitute. The locals will not vote for some high floutin folks from Cobb County. They enjoy their leaky shacks and black teeth.
