She protested against council's move to ban raves -- the biggest underground party scene in Toronto, if not Canada, at the time -- where drugs like Ecstasy were rampant and one man died in 1999.
OMG! Next thing you know she'll be smoking crack!

WHAT SHE SAID: "I have a plan to strengthen our small businesses and promote jobs and prosperity."

WHAT SHE DID: Vociferously fought the expansion of the Island airport in 2003 and tried to block public entry to the site on the day the first Porter flights took off in 2006.

WHAT SHE SAID: "I have a plan to get people moving faster now -- not 20 years from now."

WHAT SHE DID: Helped escalate downtown gridlock by fiercely backing every bike lane project while a councillor.

During 2004 budget talks, she was reported as saying: "If I had $26 million, I'd build one community centre in a high-risk neighbourhood first than fix any more roads."

WHAT SHE SAID: "I learned how to work hard and make every penny count, to save money for rainy days and invest wisely ... that is what I will do as your new mayor."

WHAT SHE DID: Pushed numerous pet projects while at City Hall including:

* $250,000 in 1999 to nurture squeegee kids instead of legislating them out of business

* $400,000 for rent supplements for the Tent City squatters--

* More than $40 million in child and family projects over three years

* $100,000 in 2002 for harm reduction projects including safe crack kits
Good, these all seem like good decisions. Sounds like the best candidate so far, despite LoveHobby maligning her by pretend association.

If you're suppporting funding for harm reduction kits for crack users then why all the vitrol about his crack smoking?

Unless you would consider it a conflict of interest if he used one.......

Not to mention his own hypocrisy in stating that squatters usurping private property rights(didn't realize you were a closet fan of LH's little theorms), and promotion of raves(extreme drug culture with the gang activity that went with it) is ok by him.

Anyone who votes Chow is a moron
Period
Can understand why people would vote for Chow. Chow gets your vote If you feel the city has a revenue problem and taxes need to go up, there are not enough city workers/social workers, roads are for bikes & squeegee kids , unions need more power and should be calling the shots in negotiations, no new subways especially not subways that hook those people in Scarborough up with the city core, garbage pickup should be done by the city’s unionized workers.

Not sure how much more money will be available for new taxes after the hydro and gas companies are done with us.

But you have to understand that LOVESAVOIDANCE's commie view point, is that NOBODY should be able to own property,...it all belongs to the state,...

That is meant to be a joke isn't it? Surely you must know the difference between shoving a dirty second hand needle into your vein and taking a hit from a bong.

There's always the concept that holders of the public trust should avoid criminal behaviour and comport themselves in exemplary rather than depraved fashion. And be honest. And hold their liquor.

If you were serious.

Small POint: Taxes do need to go up. Even Rob voted to raise 'em.

Everything you do follows from having enough money to meet your needs. We don't yet, and Mr. Gravy couldn't find it for all his Magic Spectacles. So the City he took over in bad shape he will hand on in worse shape. The TDL list just grows.

We can afford to move more Scarberians, from more stops and have them on the transit years sooner for less money than Rob's subway. We clearly don't have the social workers we need to deal with drug abuse and drinking among the folks employed by the City. Roads are for moving people, including the ones who choose to use bikes (takes less $$ to move more folks), and I haven't seen a squeegee kid in years, let alone one who took up as much road as an Escalade idling while the driver makes a phone call. We've seen it makes next to no difference who picks up your garbage, and it saves you next to nothing having a non-union guy do it. But the money the City's collectors take home now goes to GFL shareholders. And their workers are that much closer to the poverty line and needing welfare while their kids are that much closer to the gangs.

I am confused about "unions calling the shots in negotiations": Is that why there was a strike and they lost all those paycheques while the City piled up savings? If that's how my union or any union ever 'called the shots', there'd never have been unions in the first place.

Hydro and gas are both market commodities; you use, you pay. Are you suggesting you wanna socialize them then tax folks to cover what you don't pay? How many sides does your mouth have?

Thanks for the helpful advice on this difficult choice. That sort of clearheaded, incisive intelligence is just what got us the last guy and he was brilliant.

Yes...it was a joke.....calm down.......note the "conflict of interest comment"

But anyway the fact he will tolerate and enable street crack users and condemn the mayor for the same thing is a bit hypocritical. Either you are for it or against it when it comes to the addictive hard stuff. Too much social damage is caused by it for tolerance.

The Mayor should have been busted for possession when they had the chance. And now the opportinity is lost. I have zero tolerance for it. He could have been removed from office then. And the election would have been more clear cut. Now its a fiasco.

Saw you other post OJ. Saw squeggee kids(quebecois) at the corner of queen and bathhurst last week. Let alone the panhandlers at various highway exits.

We have an excellent shelter, welfare, and assistance in the city. No excuse for it.

They only thing they have in common is that none of them has ever had a job.
Doug gave Rob his only job, selling labels. Socknaki started and runs his own importing company. Chow taught at George Brown College for a half-dozen years. Stintz trained and worked as a journalist and in the Department of Health. John Tory's had various gigs at the management level, but began, like Rob, with one in daddy's firm. He was CEO at Rogers and the CFL, as well as working for Mulroney and Bill Davis. And he talked on the radio.

So two had family-firm jobs, and all but Rob have managed others on their own.

Unless you're suggesting we shouldn't have paid these folks as trustees, councillors, MPPs, heads of investigative and advisory agencies, etc. and only cold-call applications and hires for private business count, then they've all had jobs. And are elected jobs not real?

If you do mean 'public service aren't real jobs' then only Stintz and Socknacki qualify. But if you do, why the f_ _ _ _ aren't you out there campaigning to take away the paycheques from those 'unreal jobs'?

Sneering at them on TERB just makes it all worse.

If you all think the city has a revenue problem think again. We don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. It's like pigs at the trough, the more you dump in front o their snouts, the more they'll gorge themselves. Ontario politicians have an insatiable hunger for money, the more they have the more they spend and the more they want from us. It's time to come full stop, evaluate what's needed vs what's wanted and start making choices, the current way of things is unsustainable. I can't imagine having both Olivia Chow and Kathleen Wynn working in tandam, it's like the opening scene of Mcbeth with the 3 witches stirring the cauldron, I guess we can throw Horwath in there too as she's the one pulling the strings.

No end

How many times must it be repeated here,...

If you raise the taxes because there isn't enough to cover the current state of affairs,...what the hell do you think will happen AGAIN in a few years.

We are still going to hear from the tax and waste crowd, that we need to raise taxes AGAIN,...

NOBODY here is saying that taxing is wrong,...but raising taxes due to mismanagement, is not going to solve anything.

The economy is growing,...population is increasing,...all of which means more revenue,...

The dumb ass thinking behind constantly raising taxes,...is what is behind the "screw the tax man" attitude in Greece and Italy, and any other economy that goes underground.

Ford needs a support program too.

Of course cost wise, harm reduction is far less expensive than jail or medical care.
