I can't believe that someone would be turned on by someone who has destroyed so many lives. Someone who tortured young girls that could have been YOUR daughters....would you still have given it to her silly if one of those girls were your child? I think this posting is in very poor taste. hmmmm .... I don't know what my initial knee jerk reaction to the poll and actual question would be, because I was immediately sidetracked by the sentiment of the replies.
No doubt, it's presented in an insensitive and inconsiderate context. I can fully understand peoples anger, but I wouldn't put too much credence in anonymous poll results ( as to why they were removed ... bizarre ) It does however broach possible "forbidden" topics of human psyche.
Not everybody was closely involved and although they needn't be to empathise, we all deal with things differently. For me to come to terms with such tragedy I need to get beyond the hostility and repugnance or it will eat me up.
I don't think anyone has indicated they would be "turned on" because of her past actions, but in some cases, although an over simplification, there may be a preconception of her sexuality based on her [bad girl] past - there is a difference.
Lanqwellie's sig may apply here : Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. There is more than likely a boys locker room effect and I doubt too many put much actual thought into their vote.
I'm not sure if TERB would be a realistic representation of the general population of males or not, but it would seem that most of the male membership of TERB were initially drawn here primarily out of physical desire [or so we'd like to believe].
What's interesting is the apparent separation of the physical sexual act/attraction from her past behavior, because very few, if any at all, who indicated they want to "bang" her would condone or directly base their vote on her past. Isn't separating "service" in the sex industry from personal attachment what both clients and SP's to do to varying degrees all the time, both in forethought and retrospect.
This whole thing regarding manhating, misogyny etc is weird. It's about as useful in forming realistic judgments as generalizations toward other races, and likely stems out of similar bias from a personal narrow perspective. Like most rational lines of thought ; easy to say, but hard to apply in practice when caught in that cave.
