It hadn't traveled far enough to arm.

Still a monumentally stupid thing to do!
That weapon is a RPG ( rocket propelled grenade ) launcher. The grenade explodes on impact when it hits something like a tank. It may have went through sheet rock and possibly on the exterior of the house lath and plaster or wood cladding which is not hard enough to detonate the grenade.

You may indeed be correct, but most such weapons have to "travel" for a certain distance before they arm.

You don't fire weapons with a powerful backblast in an enclosed environment. Looks like he had either blown out the window behind him or it was already open.

The Swedes made a weapon (AT4-CS) for confined spaces (ie the "CS") that uses saltwater to absorb the backblast. But most of these types of weapons have to be fired in the open as the backblast can create overpressure which can cause serious injuries or even kill.

Apparently this is part of a new tactic where the rebels enter random houses to fire the rockets. When the Syrian army retaliates they film it and claim they are targetting innocent civilians. There are no "good "guys with weapons over there.

I can not make a 100% positive identification of the weapon, but I suspect it is a soviet made or variant РПГ-7 ( RGP-7 ) This weapon has been around for 50 years and is a simple detonation on impact device with no electronics. This type of weapon is seen all over the middle east. As you can see in the pic, the grenade has a pin on the end of it that has to be removed before the grenade is launched. The firing of the grenade in the video may have been unintentional. With the pin still in place the grenade will not detonate.

* Additional info
Since the video is labeled as being from Syria, I suspect it is a Iranian made variant of the RPG-7 that has a HEAT ( high explosive anti-tank ) projectile. The effective range is about 300 feet.

And the specific model matters because?
Range and ability are different, choice of projectiles are not the same. Accuracy and reliability are not the same. The Soviet made RPG are much more reliable than the Iranian made ones.

It was just a challenge to identify the model. From the video it is not apparent that the grip handles are green, Iranian RPGs have green handles and the Soviet made ones have brown handles. The sights on the RPG can be seen in the video to identify its origin as Iranian.

From the video it looks like he may have fired the RPG though an already open window or doorway.

I definitely believe this.
