Similar tactic, though not as dangerous as cutting across a few lanes:

People who refuse to get in line for an exit (e.g. 401 eastbound onto the 400) and try to sleaze in somewhere closer to the exit. But then they can't get in and have to slow down or stop to find and opening and in doing so block the next lane to left and immediately cause a backup that can be a km. long. Fucking entitled idiots.
Saw this late last week in rush hour traffic in west GTA.

You can imagine the joy I and the other drivers who did wait in line while this sleaze bucket was trying to get in...only to have the OPP come up behind him and put the lights on. Don't know what/if the asshat was charged of course - but man...I smiled like I do coming out of an awesome SP visit, lol.

Canadians are pretty much oblivious to what zipper merging is.
Works pretty well in the USA especially on two lane stretches.
Lot's of large pickups on the roads with signs stating "to keep right except when passing" and a 12 gauge shot gun on the gun rack, to make for better lane management in the USA as well.:)
