I think the flatbed he collided with was laden with replacement street car rails. The back end of flat beds have a bumper basically to feel when getting to a loading dock, not really to stop speeding vehicles.

So the top of the SUV would have been sliced or squashed very quickly, along with the driver.

Which in this case is a shame.

I would have preferred he be pinned, and the EMS could them take several hours to get him out.

Only to have him go from cardiac arrest when they pry the steering wheel out of his chest, or have him go from severe upper chest/ abdominal hematoma

so medically not competent to even recognize that seat belt can save sorry ass pieces of shit like this guy when you actually buckle them in place.

I guess we have one for the Darwin Awards locally this year, and the gene pool a tiny bit strengthened.

The driver was a worthless piece of shit drug dealer who's now dead. Unfortunately he took two innocent lives with him. RIP

I'm not victim blaming, I feel truly sorry for the pedestrians who needlessly lost their lives in this crash. Their families must be heartbroken.

What I will say, is never trust a green light. Look both ways, be aware of your surroundings, make sure traffic is stopped before you cross. I see so many people crossing the street, paying little attention to vehicles. Assuming that because they have the right of way, there's no need to be aware of what's going on around them. It's frightening actually. Any time I cross the street, I make sure the vehicles have come to a stop or if there's one approaching that might not stop, I've got time to get out of the way. Same goes for waiting to cross, I always stand back from the roadway until I get the green light.
I hate that you have to give a disclaimer now saying you're not victim blaming. No one in their right mind would assume you are, but I guess it's kind of like those warnings not to stick a tide pods in your mouth. Idjits gonna idjit.

It does astonish me how little care pedestrians seem to have for their own safety. People crossing without looking either way. People crossing with earpods blaring. Even people standing right at the edge of the curb not paying attention, so that drivers waiting to make their turn don't know if they're going to cross or not. Some people just up and cross the road far removed from a pedestrian crossing, without looking, and somehow have survived this long. I saw a mother driving her van with two little kids in the back, almost run over a druggie lady crossing in the middle of the street from between parked cars. When the mother had the audacity to honk at the druggie, the druggie started lacing into her with a string of curses while the two little daughters listened on horrified. That's what our society is now. An epidemic of the clueless, the entitled, the coked out, and the shrinking pool of normal, responsible people whose backs are breaking under the strain of keeping our society going.

I hear ya... I was just trying to thwart off those who may have thought I was saying the pedestrians were at fault.

And I agree with what you're saying. Just last night I was driving along Dundas. That particular section has streetcar tracks and parked cars in the curb lanes. A woman started crossing the street mid-block. She casually walked out in front of my car, forcing me to brake pretty hard to avoid hitting her. As she continued on, she walked past the front of the streetcar that was stopped in the other direction. She was so completely oblivious to her surroundings. She made no effort to stop and look past the streetcar to see if there was a bicycle, motorcycle, scooter or ebike coming up along side between it and the parked cars as she made her way to the other side of the street. At the speed I've seen those things go, she could've been smoked had there been one coming. It just amazes me as to how oblivious some people are.
