Early next week, on December 4, 16 veteran members of the Baseball Hall of Fame will vote on the Contemporary Era Ballot to choose from a list of retired players to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame. On the list is the Blue Jay good guy, Fred "Crime Dog" McGriff, a 19 year veteran of many clubs with a .284 average, 493 homers and 1550 RBIs. He was a two time AL home run leader, six time .300 hitter and hit 100+ RBIS eight times. He was not a controversial loudmouth but a dependable and effective player for many years. I hope he gets in. He needs 12 of the 16 members to succeed. In his last go round on the regular ballot in 2019, he achieved only a 39.8% result.
The list contains a number of fine players like Dale Murphy and Don Mattingly as well as notorious bad boys like Roger Clemens, Albert Belle, Barry Bonds, Raphael Palmeiro, and Curt Schilling. Many of these players were accused of PED abuse. I think that Murphy and Mattingly have a good chance to finally realize the dream of every player.
