Any word on whether the thugs have been caught ?
Just wondering if there is any video of these guys. There is video surveillance at most, if not all, subway stations now.
I still cannot believe that no one tried to help the victim by at least pressing the Emergency Strip or aiding him after the assault was over.
I guess the cost of having a TTC security person in every car is too expensive, how about every other car or at least one per train or cameras on every subway car.

I just saw a documentary the other night about why people "go with the herd",many studies, experiments, social set ups, scenarios, experiences and live videos were spoken of and shown to prove the theory. It was prompted by the recent death of the gentleman dying in the street and people simply walking by and staring. In University I had a Sociology course and we often discussed this very thing.Myself,I just don't get it.I may be one of the apples in a sea of oranges as I would DEFINITELY have helped the man in any way imaginable.I hope to god nothing like that ever happens to me,what a horrible way to die.I feel sick inside.
Yes, Sweetcookie. I have seen that documentary! There is a name that psychologists use "The By-Stander Effect" and it is not new. I could have discussed this earlier as it is part of the training in my profession, but I chose not to.

The herd mentality that you refer to is also illustrated in movies: The blob, Night of the Living Dead, Armegeddon, anything were the crowd runs away.

Have a look at all of this information; it's interesting.

The Tuesday Globe and Mail (page 2) said there is a subway video but didn't say if there is a video of the incident inside the actual train.

EDIT: The police recovered the senior's wallet.

Hamilton has a better sense of community!

CHCH NEWS HAMILTON, APRIL 27, 2010.

Downtown Hamilton this afternoon a mugger stole a woman's purse on King Street. THREE civilian witnesses chased and subdued the suspect until Police arrived to continue the arrest.

Yeah, I would say that it probably does.

In hindsight, I guess everything turned out ok. The senior suffered only "minor" injuries and his wallet was recovered. None of the other passengers who sat and stared at the floor were hurt. No TTC property or equipment were damaged.

The punks will eventually be caught and then immedaitely released on bail.

There are no cameras inside subway cars.
