How exactly is it racist to refer to the virus as the Wuhan Virus
But its kosher to refer to the South African variant, UK variant, Brazil variant etc by referring to origins
???

I don't believe calling it the Wuhan virus is the issue, it's calling it the China Virus that brings on the racist accusation.

I was on board of only calling it COVID.

While I still call it COVID because that is what I am use to, I will not hold it against someone for calling it the China Virus.

Once we started naming variants based on location, it made the “racist” point completely moot.

It's racist due to the intent of it.
No one was calling it the "Wuhan virus" or "China virus" because they are trying to be clear. They started doing it specifically as a racist move to try and make it "something we blame on China".
Eventually, the Wuhan variant will probably become what the original variant is called, because - as you say - variants are starting to show up and be named by region.
Scientifically, they will never be called those, they will be SARS-COV2-varian b.1.1.1 or whatever.

The idea that things are racist or not based on logic and not based on how they are actually being used wrong.

Typical smug comments from a leftist. I know what people are thinking and if they don't not to worry- I'll tell them.

You can be racist, and make all sorts of typically non racist comments. Racist words are not the problem, intent is. I agree

But calling it the China virus doesn’t necessarily mean the persons intent is to be racist. And holding a government accountable is not necessarily racist either.

I’m not happy with the government of China right now. They have two of our citizens, they lied about this virus, they have essentially committed genocide recently.

So for some people, I think it is more about holding the government accountable in their own way. For others, yes it is to be racist. Like everything, there are some bad apples.

To say that calling it the China Virus is 1000% racist no matter is totally incorrect and blatantly ignorant of the persons intent.

This is not the N word, the R word, etc. There are racist names to call people of Asian decent. This is not that.

But you are admitting you are calling it "The China Virus" as an attack on China.

That was the whole point of people starting to call it that in the first place. No one pretended otherwise.
COVID-19 was used very early. Only later, because people were mad at China and wanted to attack it, people started calling it the China virus.
There is no other reason people use the term. Even you, right now, are saying it you use it for that reason specifically.

All these defenses about how "well we call other things by their region, and we are doing that with the variants" is a smokescreen, which you yourself admit.

People assume if you are using "China Virus" it is racist because the only reason people use it is to attack China. You can make the argument that you are attacking the government and not the people and there is some legitimacy in that argument, but "I'm going to use this thing racists use because I, too, am mad at China" isn't really a strong defense.

I fully expect people to start referring to the "Wuhan variant" along with the other variants at some point and it won't be racist because it will have come from a different place.

I never said I use it. In fact I said I don’t. I started using COVID and have stuck with it but I am not going to fault people for using it.

I am saying that, like you have said, now that the variants have come into play that people are saying it, not because of racist reason but geographical ones. You just think it will be “wuhan” variant not China Virus. We will ha e to see.

But make no mistake. Never once did I say I use it. I don’.

And what is wrong with blaming China? It is clear that their actions caused us to be in the situation that we are in today.

My mistake. I apologize. I misread.

China should totally get shit for its lack of early transparency.

Blame is fine but it does not justify racism. If you blame BLM for some civil unrest, can you call them the "N" word?

Valcazar described the situation perfectly.

Been discussed already but media is now mostly reporting them as "the variant first detected in..."

The scientific community doesn't use any of those names but rather things like B 1.1.7
