What is the risk/benefit to gain of function research? What are we getting out of it? With immense risk we are getting no benefit at all.

Here Dr. Robert Redfield the formed CDC director testifies before a committee the specific problems with gain of function research. He has maintained from the beginning that this from a lab leak.

MSM won't even touch this testimony...

Totally legitimate question.
Too bad it isn't something the lab leak people want to talk about seriously.

The Wuhan Lab was cautioned more than once not to infect human cells with Coronavirus from bats, pangolins etc.due to the risk of developing pathogens like Covid-19.

@Valcazar

Listen up kiddo. Facts are Wuhan lab was working on Coronaviruses for the last decade or two.
There are published studies where they admit doing as such.

Fast forward to 2019 and suddenly a coronavirus infects half the planet, and are you gullible to believe thats all an accident??!!

One of the greatest pieces of evidences supporting a non-zoonotic origin of Covid-19 is the PRC allowing the wet markets to re-open and the immediate scuttling and obfuscation of the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s research involving the deliberate infection of human cells with Coronavirus very early in the pandemic.

Clearly the PRC believes that Covid-19 was iatrogenic even if they imply that this manmade pandemic virus came from elsewhere and not Wuhan because they necessarily have to “ save face” and their ass too!

No, it isn't gullible to believe that's an accident.
Not falling for the easy story that is emotionally soothing requires paying attention and prioritizing reason over gut emotion.

Take a breath and try to think clearly.

But that argument also applies to the wet market.
The PRC culled all the animals there and hid data from the investigation.
They have repeatedly denied that there was illegal wildlife trade happening at the wet market.
The market is owned by someone with connections to Xi.

All of your "they acted sketchy and were trying to save face" ideas work just as well for the zoonotic spillover scenario.

He is an ideologue. They do not vacate their original position, ever. But, I'm glad that bats are off the hook. 😆
China is a left-wing commie country.
Thats why the Lefties are so deep in denial, they dont wanna be seen as accusing their own kind.
If that virus had escaped near Trump tower in NYC they'd be all over that

LOL...All these left wing media outlets spreading this natural origin theory .

So they're moving off horseshoe bats now?

The virus shows up in a city which has a lab which works on sars like coronaviruses more than any other lab in the world.

Geographical coincidence? LOL...

Also this virus seems to be particularly adapted to be spread amongst humans where most viruses are not. This virus has a receptor binding domain on its spike gene which is well adapted to the human ace two receptor on our cells. Not very well adapted to other species receptors. It has what is called a furin cleavage site. This is why it spread so quickly. Without this it would have been fairly easy to control. Western virologists thought at first that it was engineered. Then the Chinese announced that they had found the virus in a pangolin that was 99 % similar. Eureka case closed the intermediate animal is found..Except that the published data showed this pangolin virus it didn't have the furin cleavage site and that there were no pangolins on sale in wuhan. So that couldn't have explained how the outbreak occurred in Wuhan. Project defuse tells us that Peter Daszak of the World Health Alliance was working with the lab in Wuhan experimenting with inserting a furin cleavage site into a bat virus. The Chinese have of course reused to reveal the contents of their data base with over 22k entries on viruses affecting wildlife. About 15k related to bats. So far there have been no affected animals found. No evidence of previous infected people in blood banks. Nobody who looks like an indexed case. 80k animals tested at the outbreak and not one was infected.
