Simon and Garfunkel were not the original recording artists for the theme from Jonny Quest. It's by Hoyt Curtin and Ted Nichols, in-house composers/ arrangers for Hanna-Barbera studios. The original recording by Simon and Garfunkel was great as well.
To my knowledge, Simon and Garfunkel never recorded nor arranged any instrumental numbers. If they had played TTfJQ live, Art would have had to sit there picking his ass for a minute twenty, and I don't think Paul Simon is a good enough musician to play that song solo on acoustic guitar.
Johnny Quest originally aired on ABC in primetime during the 1964-65 season, (primetime was from 7:30 PM then). It premiered a few weeks before the release of the first Simon and Garfunkel album, Wednesday Morning, 3 AM.
