^^^ I agree

I agree that Hillary should never ever run again. She remains a completely vile and unlikeable person.

I would have liked to have seen Al Franken run, buuuuttt, they rode him out of town didn't they. I also liked Elliot Spitzer and Andrew Cuomo, buuuuttt their dicks got them in trouble too. They are all done.

Mayor Pete would be a good candidate or Andrew Yang or Mitch Landrieu. I've listened to all of them and they all impress me.

To be honest, I think it's time for a whole new generation of Democrats. It's time to throw out the dead wood and the fossils from the Clinton era and at the top of that list is Hillary and her sexual predator husband.
Funny that the Dems w the balls to clearly call bullshit on the conservative bs - Spitzer, Weiner, Franken, Cuomo - tend to use those balls in inappropriate places too...lol

Neither of them are going to run. Trump will huff and puff about it, but in the end he'll likely be locked up. Hillary has no taste for that level of bullshit again...
I guarantee you that Trump will not be locked up by 2024. I doubt he'll even be charged with anything. Its all bluster.

You're seriously impressed with Pete Buttigeg the incompetent secretary of transportation that couldn't even effectively run a mid sized midwestern city?

The now former only twice impeached POTUS in history is going through a different kind of analysis. He staring down an number of potential indictments. He know he will not win but it may be harder to charge a nominee for POTUS. It can and will be spun that it is entirely politically motivated.

Clearly DeSantis is the guy waiting in the wings.
The Dems don't have an heir apparent. A far left candidate will lose. Kamala has not shown anything to suggest she could step up.
Whitmer is good but not sure of the recognition. Gavin Newsome is now running ads in Florida pantsing DeSantis...he intrigues.
Mitch Landrieu too. It has to be a more meat and potatoes Democrat. Social justice warriors will get creamed. Mayor Pete would be a fantastic president, but i agree the gay thing prevents...
The Dems have a problem in that i believe that the party itself is center left but very moderate. There is a very vocal and powerful further left contingent which will do nothing if a moderate candidate gets the nomination and thereby help the GOP.

DeSantis vs AOC
DeSantis made a mess out of his handling of the Covid-19 Pandemic. To add to the woes is his very right wing fundamentalist views of Abortion that has really been a very controversial issue. That should play into the hands of a Democratic candidate as by 2024 inflation will have flattened out, with gas prices tanking!!

DeSantis, guarantee it.
Then he'll do a 180 compared to how he's governing Florida right now and that's when it'll be America's turn to get screwed by their government even more.
It's all scripted, he's next in line.

I really liked Andrew Yang during the Democratic Primary. He carried himself well.

He stumbled huge though during the NYC mayoral race.

I think that is the difference between people who have done high level work like Elliot Sptizer… like Rudy Gulliani used too, and guys that just show up in politics and talk good.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again, as much fun as it would be to have Trump run again in 2024, he'll be 78, and unlike the current dodderer-in-chief, he knows that's too old to be President, and he has better things to do with his remaining time.

That, and his policies have become influential enough within the GOP that the next nominee (DeSantis, probably) will move forward with his agenda anyway.

What would be even more fun is if DeSantis were to become President and he were to appoint Trump to a cabinet position, or as a Czar (border security Czar, perhaps?). What press conferences there would be!

I don't quite agree.
That the party is "center left but very moderate" is an ok description, but I think it is more a case of just how wide a coalition the Democrats are. There are just more factions with differing priorities than there are in the GOP. (The GOP has factions, but they agree on goals more, even if they disagree on priorities. There are fewer major split points, although the current "culture war ascendant" aspect may end up pushing them into a more confrontational position.)

As far as the left self-sabotaging the team if they don't get their way, I don't really think that's true. The Progressive Caucus has been much more cohesive and on board of late. It's been the so-called "moderates" who have been willing to fuck up the team for their own gain and help the GOP. If we are talking online fan club and voters, though, then you do have a very loud "leftist" contingent that is very committed to fucking things up - but they don't really vote Democratic anyway.

I don't see AOC running. I think she would technically qualify in 2024, but I would still be surprised if she runs.

I think Newsom and Whitmer are far more likely as new faces in the mix.

I really liked Andrew Yang during the Democratic Primary. He carried himself well.

He stumbled huge though during the NYC mayoral race.
I think he was exposed in the NYC race. In the Dem primary, he was a third tier candidate and never taken that seriously and when he didn't get competitive no one bothered to push him or dig too deep.
In the mayor's race, he was a front runner and just turned into a joke.
I can't see him running for the Dem nomination again, and I don't see his new third party going anywhere.

If Trump bows out (willingly or no) then DeSantis does seem to be the man to beat on the GOP side.
That's certainly the MSM favorite right now and that is who they are pushing.
We might see a darkhorse GOP candidate rise up, though, since there is still quite a bit of time.

Andrew Yang is an elitist moron, he wanted to turn NYC into a crypto mining center. He wasn't even challenged on Jim and Sam and he still came across as Andrew in Wonderland.

Which Clinton are you referring to, Hillary is done.

The biggest problem with that line of reasoning is that of Joe Biden who defeated Trump. Joe has made a complete hash of his presidency; he even astounded me with the level of incompetence he was able to reach in such a short time. And, in this, he has written a taylor made narrative for Trump's campaign, next year. It is no accident that the Dems are desperate to bury Joe and destroy Trump. The presidency is his for the taking, barring a health crisis. I would also love to see DeSantis run, but the Republican core will almost certainly stick with Trump as a known quality conservative. And that is because they have a long, very long experience(and some bitter memories) with "conservatives" becoming RINOS as soon as they get themselves elected.

De Santis is pushing the most controversial culture war policies - presumably to get enough consistent coverage to become the heir apparent. None of the other GOP governors is getting much air time. Maybe Nohm as VP. Abbott is probably too tainted by the Uvalde and the Texas power grid disasters.

The other issue is whether De Santis is now re-electable as Governor of FL, given how extreme and polarizing his policies are. If Trump bumbles his way to the nom - and remains physically intact enough to do it - then De Santis might be fucked. He won narrowly. He may have picked up the far right, but he's probably lost everybody else and may even be vulnerable to a third party challenge.

De Santis has a good PR team, but he seems to have been the MSM choice for a while. He went big on COVID as culture war and got a lot of fawning coverage for it. Youngkin is clearly trying to make a play, look at the recent puff piece he got. De Santis won narrowly, but from what I understand would win pretty easily in a rematch. I haven't been paying that much attention, though, so if you have local numbers that show his hard right posturing has cost him votes, I wold love to hear it.
