Disadvantaged can prosper, with luck. One in a hundred? One in a thousand? If you start out with money and privilege your odds are a lot better...
Having successful and monied parents is a great starting point. In addition to having money, their children also inherit their good looks, intelligence and connections. Add to that studying hard and a bit of luck helps too.

However, bear in mind that Bill Gates came from a middle class (not the 1%) family and dropped out of university. Mark Zuckerberg came from an upper middle class family. Elon Musk from a middle class family.

BTW: I noticed Mr. Musk attended Queen's University, a good university but not quite in the same class (no pun intended) as McGill, UofT and Western. LOL!

BTW 2: It's not true that Steve Jobs was a Syrian refugee.
"Schieble gave birth to Jobs on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco and chose an adoptive couple for him that was "Catholic, well-educated, and wealthy,"[13][14] but the couple later changed their mind.[13] Jobs was then placed with Paul and Clara Jobs, neither of whom had a college education, and Schieble refused to sign the adoption papers.[15] She then took the matter to court in an attempt to have her baby placed with a different family,[13] and only consented to releasing the baby to Paul and Clara after the couple pledged to pay for the boy's college education.[16]"

Hopefully, it means holding police accountable before their actions lead to something more tragic.

The signs were there, but Police Departments run more like frat houses than Gov agencies sometimes.

This has been studied to death and the conclusions are firm. Children from stable families do better than their counterparts. Children of the parents with higher education are more likely to have higher education themselves. Children of professionals are more likely to become professionals, too. Above all, children from economically stable backgrounds learn about economic realities and management from their parents and apply that knowledge in their independent lives. It is often fashionable for the elites of various kinds to dismiss the nuclear family, but just look at their personal lives. The education, employment and the sound money management are ALWAYS priorities in their own lives and in the lives of their children. They understand that a solid foundation in education and a solid economic position is the key for their children to be successful themselves.

Derek Chauvin will do very well in prison. If there's one thing the man knows it's how to get down on his knees and stay there.

Totally agree. My Asian roommate from university is now chairman of the family business. My rich friend, who owns those two oversize hounds, inherited his business from his father as did Trump. However, someone started those family businesses and he/she could be someone's father right now.

On the other hand, I think it is highly unlikely that children of the tent people will be too successful, as we define success, unless maybe if they excel in sports and/or are able to win a scholarship to university. Not sure if true, but I heard that no worthy American student is denied entrance to higher learning in the U.S. because of lack of money.

Re. the poor and the kids from the "broken homes", we like to present and cling to the exceptions, but the sociological data is so clear no one is even attempting to challenge it. The few sociology courses I've taken spent a lot of time and a good amount of attention on the statistical research, over decades(fascinating long term studies) that concluded the advantages of the nuclear family and the economic stability. Some kids of the tent people will turn out ok, most of them will stumble through life like their parents, a few might even excel at something. But, they're starting in the basement of life where as the kids from the "good homes" are starting on the ground floor with the wind at their backs. Honestly, I believe that people who can't provide the good beginning for their children shouldn't even have them.
