Having successful and monied parents is a great starting point. In addition to having money, their children also inherit their good looks, intelligence and connections. Add to that studying hard and a bit of luck helps too.

However, bear in mind that Bill Gates came from a middle class (not the 1%) family and dropped out of university. Mark Zuckerberg came from an upper middle class family. Elon Musk from a middle class family.

BTW: I noticed Mr. Musk attended Queen's University, a good university but not quite in the same class (no pun intended) as McGill, UofT and Western. LOL!

The education, employment and the sound money management are ALWAYS priorities in their own lives and in the lives of their children. They understand that a solid foundation in education and a solid economic position is the key for their children to be successful themselves.

Totally agree. My Asian roommate from university is now chairman of the family business. My rich friend, who owns those two oversize hounds, inherited his business from his father as did Trump. However, someone started those family businesses and he/she could be someone's father right now.

On the other hand, I think it is highly unlikely that children of the tent people will be too successful, as we define success, unless maybe if they excel in sports and/or are able to win a scholarship to university. Not sure if true, but I heard that no worthy American student is denied entrance to higher learning in the U.S. because of lack of money.

Re. the poor and the kids from the "broken homes", we like to present and cling to the exceptions, but the sociological data is so clear no one is even attempting to challenge it. The few sociology courses I've taken spent a lot of time and a good amount of attention on the statistical research, over decades(fascinating long term studies) that concluded the advantages of the nuclear family and the economic stability. Some kids of the tent people will turn out ok, most of them will stumble through life like their parents, a few might even excel at something. But, they're starting in the basement of life where as the kids from the "good homes" are starting on the ground floor with the wind at their backs. Honestly, I believe that people who can't provide the good beginning for their children shouldn't even have them.
