Red House over yonder.
I met the entire cast of Bonanza and Shari Lewis the puppet lady mid 1960s.

She looked a lot older than this picture in 1966. She must have worn heavy makeup on TV.

I saw French actor Louis Jordan. He was driving a Rolls Royce with the window down out of the Four Seasons in Yorkville early 80s.

I saw David McCallum walking down Boor St. early 80s

1613086423164.png
I saw Roy Rogers and Dale Evans up close and personal circa 1957. Trigger did not attend the event. As a youngster the Prez had two Roy Rogers six shooter pistols in a double holster, as well as a Roy Rogers western town. Roy was a good toy marketer as well as being a first rate yodeler. It is hard to find good yodeling today.

I met these great bluesmen backstage 60s, 70s, 80s:
Muddy Waters
1613087532626.png

Clarence Gatemouth Brown
1613087843565.png

James Cotton
1613088017809.png

Luther Allison
1613088696784.png

Robert Junior Lockwood
1613089062153.png

These were some of the greatest live music shows and they were nice people if you met them after the show. I became a blues fan after hearing John Lennon and Mick Jagger talk about who influenced them.

not to piss on anyone's parade, I am sure all those were insanely amazing encounters for you guys, but what good did any of this do to anyone, except creating and feeding cults of celebrities who sometimes go into politics with disastrous results?
I personally give zero fucks about encounters with any of these people... Is anything wrong with me?
This is the lounge. Kind of like a beer parlor you overhear a conversation at the next table and chip in. I give zero fucks about whether you give zero fucks. None of it is life changing. Just a kind of distraction from the humdrum.

Add to blues man list:

Carence Gatemouth Brown

Perhaps the most famous musician anybody in my family ever met:
The Great Duke Ellington
The young Duke Ellington just starting out.
1613090943666.png

The old Duke Ellington - Early 1970s - when my brother met him.

1613090615024.png

My brother had one of those college jobs working at a restaurant-nightclub. The Duke Ellington Orchestra appeared live on stage. After the show my brother and another college student helped load up the band bus.

My brother told the Duke, "My father is a big fan of yours."
Duke Ellington replied, "Your father has very good taste!"
With that Duke Ellington gave each of the two college students $100 tip for helping to load the equipment. He was a great artist and composer and a nice guy.

Some people go through life miserable, pissing on everything. These posts have nothing to do with hero worship. It is fun to meet somebody in person that you see on TV or in movies in person. I also enjoy live music in a small venue. Savor each moment.

One more close encounter:

I walked in the King St door of One King West. I was stopped by a man wearing a trench coat with sunglasses.
He said, "Are you here for the event?"
The Prez said, "No, I am here for the bar."
He said, "OK."
I noticed there were other men in trenchcoats in all corners of the lobby. I sat down and ordered some refreshments and started some conversations.

Soon there was a fast walking phalanx of suits and trenchcoats with a short nice looking charismatic man with dark hair walking about 2/3 back in the pack. It was indeed Justin T. and his posse. Bringing up the caboose of the troop was a short stocky French Canadian looking man who had a neck thicker than a telephone pole. It looked like he either had a cannon or a load of groceries under his trenchcoat.

I thought, "This is how to walk in with an entourage." It seems there was a meeting of some society promoting birds or blue skies or something in a second floor room.

Later, the party apparently adjourned and JT and the posse exited toward the Miranda St entrance post haste the way they came in. Some VIP types seemed to be lingering there in the lobby area. I thought - this is my opportunity to get a picture with Jagmeet Singh. He laughingly obliged. The photos were great. I emailed them to an Indian American friend of mine.

Except later the Prez found out from the bartenders that the man with the quality suit and the turban in the photos was a driver for a limo service. Have some fun. Don't be sour puss. Enjoy meeting people from all ranks and nationalities in life. Nobody is star struck here.

Met her at a figuring skating event my girlfriend was at, then a year or two later I was in St.Thomas delivering something for work & went into McDeez & this shy cute girl at the register says something about figure skating & my first thought was has this girl been drinking? She remembered me from the skating event & asked how my gf was doing & I said something to the effect probably miserable since we broke up & she blushed! Cute girl but seemed like such a goodie goodie I didn't pursue any further. Almost spit my drink out when I seen her on the big screen years later
So, Rachel McAdams remembered you, she basically asked if you were single, you made her blush, and you never asked her out...?

What’s wrong with you man?!

Reading these reminded me of a couple of others.

I met and played a couple of rounds of golf with Billy Harris. The younger one who got traded for Butch Goring. The Isles commenced to win 4 Cups in a row right after the trade.

I was in Frisco for the earthquake in '89. I was on the 1st plane back to Toronto and Cito Gaston and Paul Beeston were on the flight.

I got to go backstage and meet BB King after he did a lounge show at the Las Vegas Hilton around 1974. Unfortunately I didn't really know his music aside from The Thrill Is Gone.

I met Bill Withers poolside at the Riviera Hotel circa 1975. I gave him my lounge chair so he could chat up a lady beside me.

How could I forget this one:

In 1973 my school class was taken by teacher to corner of University and Queen to see Queen Elixabeth II's motorcade, she was not more than 10 feet away from me as she rode by, doing her signature wave.

What's with you and me and crosswalks? lol. Sorry to one up you again, but my very first visit to Vancouver in 1970. I was standing on the corner of Burrard and Georgia early in the morning on a bright sunny day with my camera slung around my neck. A motorcade went by and a big Chinese Canadian guy asked me excitedly "did you get a picture of her?" I said "who?" He said "the queen for crying out loud!" I said. "no".

In 1967 I was in Highschool in Ottawa and in the school band. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass were very big at the time and 7 of us from the band formed a group that played most of his music.
Our Music teacher asked us if we would play on Parliament hill on Canada day. The Queen and Prince Philip were in attendance as it was the Centennial. We were on a smaller stage next to the main platform and played between breaks in the main show. We had just finished a number when I looked over to the main stage and saw Prince Philip standing there watching us. As I was closest he said to me "that was very good and quite enjoyable". I thanked him and we had a brief conversation where he asked where we were from and how long we had been playing. When I told him we all high school students and this was more a hobby than a profession he said to make sure that we continued with our education so we would have something to fall back on if the music didn't work out. A very nice man and seemed genuinely interested in what we were talking about.

...and a racist- remarks to british students in China: The Prince, who is the university's chancellor, was reported to have asked one of the students how long he had been in China. When the young man replied that he had been there six weeks, the Queen's husband then wisecracked, ''If you stay here much longer, you will go back with slitty eyes.''

I am sure we have all said things that in retrospect we wish we hadn't of said and I do agree that when you are in the public spotlight you are held to higher standards but as he nears 100 yrs I am sure his accomplishments far outweigh any missteps that might have occurred along the way.
