Caught driving through red light

I woke up this morning to a lovely piece of mail. A red light camera showed I passed a red light after it had been red for 1.3 seconds.

Any idea if this would result in a loss of points ? Any suggestions on how to fight or at least lower the fine ?

Thanks

No demerit points are issued as the ticket is issued to the registered owner of the vehicle regardless of who was driving the vehicle.

Why do you think you should fight it?

You did it. You would have seen the yellow and then the red and yet you chose to run the hard red.

Running reds is fucking incredibly dangerous.

Ask Venus Williams about that. What she wouldn't give to have that 1.3 seconds back.

Give me a break. I don't think there's one person on this planet that hasn't been in that situation where your approaching an intersection, light terns amber and your the distance of "doing I go through or is it more dangerous for me to stop?" The light turns red just has you go through and think to yourself "I probably had time to stop". It happens to everyone.

I believe that the courts offer you a smaller settlement on this if you plead guilty around $150 ish but if you fight it that amount is over $300. They group a whole bunch of people together and a lawyer gives you the details then you go to court shortly afterwards and a judge hears your case, some people claim hardship and they lower the settlement amount and will give you a few months to pay.

There are so many bad/distracted/drunk/inconsiderate drivers out there. If I am at the front where there is a red light, once it turns green I take a very quick glance to ensure no one is running a red light. This has actually saved my life once as if I didn't I would have been t-boned by some idiot who ran the red light. It is amazing how one or two seconds in time can affect your life.

The walk signs all have countdown timers. You know EXACTLY when that thing is going to go yellow.

And the yellow has been engineered to give drivers going 10 km/hr over the speed limit sufficient decision sight distance to stop safely.

Going through a red is willful. Especially 1.3 seconds.

Hammering it to get through the red on the inter-red is selfish and dangerous and gets people killed. It is my personal opinion that red light runners are FAR more dangerous than your average speeder. To my thinking, travelling along the 401 at 140 km/hr in the fast lane is nowhere near as dangerous as a guy who runs a red light. If a cop had of been there, it would have been $325 and 3 points for him.

I am pretty sure they wanted to change this or already did and add demerit points. Best thing to call them and ask.

As a professional truck driver I have ingrained some driving habits :

1 Never follow a car into the intersection to make a left

2 I think of a yellow as a red. I never try to beat it.

3 never speed

4 never follow to close

5 adjust driving to weather conditions

6 always a full stop at a stop sign

7 check and double check my mirrors

Results are amazing . I never get a preventable accident or a ticket although I can understand going brain dead and running a red as I have just about done it. I have caught myself stopping on a green saying to myself WTF?

Cant fight it, period! Best you can wish for is to have the fine reduced.

I wish everybody would adopt these rules. I was recently torpedoed broadside by a huge van that ran through a stop sign. Car totaled.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I always wear seat belt but not a lot of protection from a T Bone in a car

BTW, did you check to see if anyone was running the sign?

I had side air bags blow, which saved my head. The left side of the car was punched in 10 inches, the car must have had good crumple zones, as I was not hit.

If you're paying attention and start braking when you observe the light change from green to amber, you will have plenty of time to safely stop for the red. If you enter the intersection 1.3 seconds after it's red, you were either not paying attention/distracted or chose not to stop. You deserve the fine.

Running red lights and "it happens to everyone" is how collisions occur. The oncoming car making a left turn sees the light turn red and thinks you are going to stop. They proceed to turn, you don't stop and you t-bone the oncoming vehicle. This is one of the worst types of collisions which often results in serious injury to or fatality of the passenger in the car turning left. Depending upon the speed of the collision, it can also send vehicles off the road striking pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Do everyone a favour, pay attention and don't run red lights!

Smart thing to do. I do the same thing. Most collisions happen at intersections, which is why one should pay extra attention in these areas.

No demerit point for things like photo radar and red light cameras because they can't identify who was driving the car. Fine goes to the registered owner of the vehicle.

I'm not buying this BS at all. Like I say, I've never met or talked to anyone that hasn't at least once in there life got caught in that situation where your approaching and intersection when a light turns amber and you think your close enough that you should keep going only to realize your farther than you thought and the light turns red as your half way through the intersection. It happens to everyone. You and T Kirk included.

Going through a red is willful.
Except when it isn't. The one time I "ran" a red was at 2 in the morning. It was on a stretch of Yonge Street north of the 401. When I checked the lights, they were green. It wasn't until I was very near the intersection that I realized I had looked at the next set of lights, and not those for the intersection I was about to enter. Coming to a full stop would have left me somewhere in the middle of the intersection, so I made a hard right turn instead.

I think you and several others are assuming he was pushing an amber. At 1.3 seconds, that's a serious push. Could be his scenario was akin to mine or something similar. Doesn't make him blameless, nor do I think he's saying that. He's simply asking for some help.

Not to make light of the situation, but IMHO, there's only one excuse good enough to run a red light.
That's if you're going to be late for your hobbying appointment.
