Fair enough. After I posted he did respond making it sound like he did indeed make a conscious decision to run it, which I don't condone. You're right, entering an intersection 1.3 seconds after the start of a red doesn't sound like a lot, but it is.

If light changes from green to amber (as you say) THEN to red you must have been crawling through the intersection
No light is that fast and in your example you obviously broke the law

Lots of reds get installed in rural areas because idiots speed excessively & run lights because they wish to avoid 401 traffic
Two roads that have TONS of red light cameras in GTA region are Steeles and Derry
Derry in particular is a cash cow as there is one section that has 5 or 6 intersection red light cams all in a row
Meh just stop in the middle of the intersection, get your $350 worth of camera time

The oncoming car making a left turn sees the light turn red and thinks you are going to stop. They proceed to turn, you don't stop and you t-bone the oncoming vehicle. This is one of the worst types of collisions which often results in serious injury to or fatality of the passenger in the car turning left. Depending upon the speed of the collision, it can also send vehicles off the road striking pedestrians on the sidewalk.

The only thing I think you might think is funny is the fact Canada is not on list of countries. But that is factually correct since not used in all provinces. So they list them separate on next line.
Phone your insurance company and ask if it will increase your rate

My 2 cents. Been driving G for 7 years no tickets since turning G not even parking tickets. Pay close attention to traffic around. Maintain speed limit. recognize passing lane is on the far left. Fuck all behind me in a hurry, go fucking around. If you're going to tailgate to push me...you're just going to piss yourself, not me. If you're going to crash and negotiate cash...you won't get it. I will make sure insurance will squeeze you out for every penny they can. I dislike drivers who think they own the streets. I got into an accident 5 years ago where I was at a stop. And an SUV rammed from behind. Nothing was hurt but damages was estimated to about 3k. The girl was in panic mode. Not her vehicle and insurance was lapsed. Hi uncle owns the vehicle and as soon as he arrived, he was like. $1500 cash...not a lot of damage....I said, I'm no expert but I will have to bring this for assessment....but it's not even about the car. he niece was driving and texting an uninsured vehicle. long story short. he haggled until 4000 for me not to go to insurance. I declined....I know it's going to cost them more than that and that's a better lesson for them then paying off their mistakes.
Anyone who gets this ticket deserves the ticket. These are people who think yellow means speed up. Yellow means stop if it's safe. If you were in the intersection a second after the light went red you had lots and lots and lots of time to stop on the yellow.
Every insurer has different policies but most ALWAYS increase rates with 2 or 3 minor tickets in a 2 year period

My sister in law always thought that for left turns, you were allowed two cars in the intersection which in her mind meant that when the light turned yellow, those two cars where safe to go. I had to explain that is sooooooo not the case. Even the single car is suppose to wait to enter an intersection when they can clear said intersection. I was floored she did not know this. She is in her 30s!!
You are not able to enter the intersection when the light is yellow. You are safe if the back end of your car completes the intersection by the time the light turns red. So if you can't make, don't do it. It is not meant for sneaking through. It is meant for those cars that will not be able to stop safely before the red light. Not rocket science.

I've had this conversation before with a friend who's a Toronto Cop with Traffic Services.
Here's the thing. The Highway Traffic Act doesn't doesn't specifically state how far you should pull into the the intersection when making a left turn. You have both the right to pull slightly ahead of the white line into the intersection, a car length ahead or even two car lengths ahead depending upon the size of the intersection.
You also have the right to remain behind the white line until there is a break in oncoming traffic under the green. But depending upon on how busy it is, you could be waiting forever, which is why it's common practice to enter the intersection when the light goes green, then make your turn during a break in traffic or after the light changes and last car comes through.
So you're sister-in-law is not wrong. Please make sure you tell her so.
