what if nobody scores in OT?

How long can the game go?!
Games go until someone scores.

The longest N.H.L. game went to 6 overtimes.

116:30 (add the 60 minutes of regulation to that) Detroit Red Wings 1–0 Montreal Maroons March 24, 1936 Mud Bruneteau scored the goal.

In more recent times the Washington Capitals have been involved in two games that went to the fourth overtime period.
The famous goal scored by Pat LaFontaine which eliminated the Caps in that game seven. Perhaps it is the more famous of the two because it was a game seven.
The Capitals lost to Pittsburgh('96), but it was not an elimination game though the Caps were eventually knocked off by the Penguins. This game went a little longer then the game seven loss to NYI years earlier.

I'm a huge fan of Ovechkin, and I want him to win a championship this year to show that crosby isn't "the Man"

but i'm a Montreal city fan....dont really care for the Habs...but I love the energy the city has when the habs are doin well...(going to Montreal this weekend..so I want energy!!)

I guess i'm a little swayed to montreal because that will actually affect me in real life when I visit....as opposed to satisfying some unwarranted arbitrary vendetta i have against crosby..lol

Still a little divided on who i wanna win..but it should be one damn ass exciting game!
Crosby has won World Junior Gold and Olympic Gold for Canada. Was/is the youngest player to score a goal at the WJ. We all remember Crosby nailing Ovechkin and knocking him out of the game when the two went head to head in '05.
Sid of course scored the OT goal to give Canada the Gold Medal several months ago in Vancouver.
Then of course there is last season when he led the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Stanley Cup Championship, knocking off the Ovechkin and the Caps along the way.
Both players began their NHL careers in '05, yet Crosby is two years younger then Ovechkin

Yes, Sidney Crosby IS the man.

Pretty much everyone from the beginning was saying Cap's in 4, or Cap's in 5. Just because they win the Presidents trophy and have the highest scoring offense doesn't really mean anything in the playoff's. Washington also had the top power play during the regular season, and in exactly 30 chances against the Hab's they've scored only once. How horrible is that? Team's will play more defense orientated in the playoff's, and all Montreal has to do is play great defense and have a hot goalie and the Cap's are done tomorrow night. It's one game.

And Montreal has guys like Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta, Hal Gill and Travis Moen who know what it takes to win a cup. Washington has nobody.
Mike Knuble was with Detroit in '97 and '98 when the Wings won back to back Cups. He did not play any playoff games in '97 and only three in '98'.

I was one of those who predicted a Caps win in five. The first overall finish, top offence, Ovechkin all factored in, but most of all I just figured Montreal did not have the horses to pull it off ... especially in goal.

I want Montreal to win, but I think it will be Washington. Either way at least Montreal pushed it to seven games, I thought they would be done in five.

My money is with Washington
30 cents on the dollar return is really not appealing. If I was crazy and I was looking for value, I'd put $$$ on Montreal.
Ok, so Caps have no heart (could not close it out in game 5 or 6) but have the most talent. And it appears that heart (+ hot goaltender) wins in the POs. So can Halak steal another game? I don't think so. So, Caps win it but it's not going to be easy. I say Montreal tries to play a very conservative game (e.g. dump and chase, neutral zone trap) to frustrate the Caps and get them to doubt themselves and take undiscipline penalties. Caps score late 3rd period goal and get a 3-2 win (maybe 4-2 with EN).

Because he only played 9 regular season games in the 1996-97 season his name wasn't engraved on the cup. The 1997-98 season was considered his first full season since he played only 53 regular season games and 3 playoff games and somehow managed to have his name engraved onto the cup. Chance's are none of those 3 playoff games were in the Stanley Cup final's and he wasn't a major contributor unlike Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta, Hall Gill and Travis Moen on Montreal when they won their cups elsewhere.

you don't have to worry about that. Crosby is the 'kid' not the man...

Ovechkin is similar to Kovalev early in his career. He's got the skills to easily be the #1 best player in the world without much effort. However, where's his heart? I think he likes fame before success.

But, with that being said- Washington should be able to easily win tonight... no contest! Even without Ove in the lineup, the talent is hugely weighed in Wash's favour.

I read a stat a while back where over the last 40 years or so in game 7 NHL playoff situations the home team wins 70% of the time.
Problem for Washington is that they seem like a very wishy washy team that lacks mental toughness to close out a series.
Bad goaltending doesn't help either.

why does Washington always go 7 games?

I think the last 8 playoff series Washington has played in has always gone 7 games! This goes back prior to the lockout and the Jagr days!!!

It seems like that. You can never say a Washington series isn't exciting to watch.

I think they pull off the game 7 win even though the pressure is on them. I say 4-2.

Actually, Washington has gone seven games in its past four series.
The NHL record for consecutive seven game series by one team is five, by Colorado from 2001 through 2003. Look it up.

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!! 40+ block shots, 20+ shot differential, almost perfect goal tending, 2 goal posts, and only 3 penalties, Montreal was quicker, hungrier, and willing to go down and take puck to the head. They deserved to win. Go Habs!
