Retroactive to 2022. This isn’t going to end well.

Those firms should retroactively charge their customers a higher rate.
It's the only way to tax them fairly in a global internet age. We aren't the only one.

Besides, why would you care? These are trillion dollar companies. Who would move operations and layoff workers in a second. Why give a shit about faceless corporations who absolutely don't care care about and actively attempt to exploit you, as in you personally, as a commodity.

So I was right. It was used as a bargaining chip. And remember, it can go back on if they fuck around. Two can play the "extreme position" at the table game.

No panic. Just solid bargaining.

when you have to reverse policy because the other side terminates talks , it was not a bargaining chip. it was just a bad policy

Oh....like Trump and China? Lol.

It's suspended pending things happening. Trump got a phone call from donors. He is the one capitulating at the moment. As we never collected, we lose nothing. If he doesn't come back to the table, then we have the high ground to re instate it.

That's what ultimatums get you.

Carney gave in pretty quick.
All digital service taxes have been rescinded

Canada will rescind a digital services tax – a way of taxing online companies – its government said on Sunday, in a bid to restart trade negotiations with the United States.
US President Donald Trump on Friday canceled trade talks between the two countries, blaming the tax that he called “a direct and blatant attack on our Country.”

In a statement Sunday night, the Canadian government said it was stepping back from the tax to help bring the countries back to the table.

“To support those negotiations, the Minister of Finance and National Revenue, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, announced today that Canada would rescind the Digital Services Tax (DST) in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States,”

Carney caved on this one.
The digital services tax was a good attack on the oligarchy.

So the liberals caved on a stupid tax that was the idea of a stupid PM(Trudeau).
Here is what will happen. The liberals will come up with a thousand and 1 excuses on why they caved. Will say it had nothing to do with the negotiations, LMAO. And the liberal cult will defend that till the cows come home.
Then in the next budget Canadians will get hit with a DST on their internet and cell phone bills. And liberals will say that's a good idea to.
Bend over and get ready to take it up the Hershey highway.

And while you are nitpicking about Liberals who are actually in charge and doing what they need to do your dear leader is still scrambling for a seat after being booted out of his own riding that he held for 21 years for pushing maple MAGA policies.
You guys should ponder that and leave the governing to the Liberals. lmao.

And what does your childish comment have to do with this thread ?
If you want to talk about ridings, my riding booted out the liberal and so did many others in my area.
Come on, you can do better, or at least try better to defend your PM.

Your lack of a real response just tells me you know I am right.

You guys are ridiculous. :ROFLMAO:
Nothing ridiculous here. Trump sets goal posts. We met it. If he moves them again we can say fuck you. If it works, we move on.

I stated this won't be settled soon. It's likely to easily go into the fall, and beyond to 2026 when USMCA is up for renegotiation. In the mean time some hurt will happen.

But in the end Trump is the one causing the hurt. All we can do is mitigate it. No point cutting bad deals that will hurt our economy to remove tariffs that are hurting our economy. It's all a wash. Better to grind him down. He needs deals.

My response is that the right don't really care what the negotiations are about or even if Canada succeeds in the endeavour.
You want Carney to lose even if it means that Canada loses because it is your way of coping your election loss, lmao.
Similarly, maple MAGA want Trump to win, even though they are Canadians which makes them traitors and quislings, as it is ideology over country for them.
If you really wanted Canada to win, you'd support the decision to rescind the tax to get the talks going again.
And if things don't work out the tax can always be brought back.
There is nothing controversial about this.
