Nothing ridiculous here. Trump sets goal posts. We met it. If he moves them again we can say fuck you. If it works, we move on.

I stated this won't be settled soon. It's likely to easily go into the fall, and beyond to 2026 when USMCA is up for renegotiation. In the mean time some hurt will happen.

But in the end Trump is the one causing the hurt. All we can do is mitigate it. No point cutting bad deals that will hurt our economy to remove tariffs that are hurting our economy. It's all a wash. Better to grind him down. He needs deals.
You say no point cutting bad deals? Trump has got almost everything he's wanted from us and hasn't given an inch. Carney has been a patsy so far.

At this point, we might actually become a 51st state. :ROFLMAO:

He has nothing. There is no deal. Lots of pauses on things, some tariffs up, lots still mitigated by USMCA.

US wine sales down 94% to Canada, which is their largest client. Tourism losing billions. Other boycotts costing everyday. There own manufacturing base increasing prices to Americans, even those not affected by tariffs.

And once that Big Ugly bill goes in, 12 million lose healthcare. Foreclosures will be coming to Florida, And other parts, lots of loan defaults on Student Debt, CC debt. Hurricane season coming with cuts to FEMA.

You think he is winning?

You are wrong. He has bitten off more than he can chew in the world. He already capitulated to China, has no 90 deals in 90 days, is Israel's bitch, and now had to bend the knee to the tech oligarchs. He has dissent in the GOP ranks.

We are actually minor to things. Our Economy is fine at this point. Local producers sales are up. We are diversifying our trade partners. The USA will even lose Military sales. And no one is going to trust the word of anything he signs now.

This shit is going to drag out as the USA economy, and his voter base suffers some of the worst of it. Then watch what happens.

DENIAL
ANGER
BARGAINING
DEPRESSION
ACCEPTANCE
Lol. Really? I'm sitting back, and watching as things unfold. So far we have a law that never collected a penny, that still won't collect a penny for now. That's it.

We have reciprocal tariffs, and a continuing Canadian boycott costing them 10's of billions. While pretty much not costing the average Canadian consumer much. Meanwhile the USA is sliding into the shitter.

It's Trump that's starting the stages you listed. It's just he is so immature Denial and Anger are taking a long time to pass.

Step 1 - Denial.

The total value of trade of goods and services between Canada and the US is about 900 Billion a year, the DST is about 1 billion a year, which is about 1/10th of a percent of total trade.

Trump does not want a trade deal, and he is making up excuses. 90 deals in 90 days turned into 0 deals in 90 days, if no one is willing to sign trade deals with Trump, it is not a reflection that the rest of the world is unreasonable; it is a reflection that trump is unreasonable.

First it was Fentanyl, then it was illegals, now it is the DST, he will have another petty excuse the next time and the next time and the next time.

And ask Canada's manufacturing industry is doing.

Dorel Industries to close domestic manufacturing operations as it cuts home segment

Canada's economy underdelivers in April, continued weakness expected in May

  • The manufacturing sector (-2.5% m/m) dragged the entire goods side of the economy lower, led by a 3.7% m/m drop in transportation equipment manufacturing. The construction sector edged forward by a tenth of a percent, while the remaining goods sectors effectively flatlined in April.
Key Implications
  • The downside risks to Canada's economic growth are beginning to manifest, especially in tariff-exposed sectors.

Yes. I did say parts would hurt in several posts and several threads. That's obvious. Now post the downturn stats of the USA.

Wanna discuss layoffs? Real estate? Consumer debt?

Once we diversify it will get better. Meanwhile demand for US goods won't.

Canada has been talking about diversification away dependence on the US for decades

you are dreaming if you think this will happen soon if at all
