Wont mention what area. I'm close with a few cops who are in a pool for nabbing the most over 50 k speeders. The winner gets a pretty hefty payout. If you get caught doing 145 with these guys I assure you it's likely getting bumped to 150.

OPP Officer Charged For Allegedly Falsifying Traffic Stops

The OPP have arrested and suspended one of their own, after an officer was accused of laying charges against three different drivers for speeding or violating the new street racing law based on false evidence.

One was accused of exceeding the posted limit, while the other two were alleged to have violated the province's street racing law and had their licences suspended and their cars temporarily seized. The OPP Professional Standards Bureau won't say how they came across the accusations but admits all charges against the trio have since been withdrawn.

Insp. Dave Ross won't say what the motive might have been.

The allegations make other stops Sgt. Dennis Mahoney-Bruer may have been involved with suspect as well and a review of all his past cases is underway. Ross tells CityNews.ca that could keep investigators busy for a while - as many as 200 provincial cases and 50 criminal cases are being given a second look.

The 49-year-old cop has been a member of the force for 12 years and is based in Port Credit. His primary patrol area is the QEW and Highway 403.

The accused has been suspended from duty with pay and will appear in a Brampton court on July 13th. He's charged with three counts of breach of trust and one of obstructing justice.

Commissioner Julian Fantino, often cited as a 'cop's cop,' is disappointed by the outcome but says it's vital the public knows he won't stand for anything untoward in the ranks.

"It was important for the OPP to initiate an immediate investigation and a comprehensive review, with the intent to bolster safeguards, to prevent similar situations in the future," he notes in a statement. "I believe that the public trust is a fundamental cornerstone of the OPP and policing."

All I can say is good luck I hope you get off or reduced cause anyway you slice it this law is termed racing bylaw when your speeding .It's all for money which just get wasted anyway.I quess 49kms over is good but not 50kms either way it's speeding i just don't think you should be nailed for racing if your not racing someone.

Of course there will always be bad apples. That's true no matter what activity you look at involving humans. If we're going to stop doing something each time we find someone who is abusing that thing we're not going to have much left.

By and large I believe the majority of cops are honest.

And what overtime? Cops are now scheduled to go to court (at least OPP and Toronto are to the best of my knowledge)

Last I heard JPs still wanted serious evidence from the cop whether or not she was in OT.

pimpin_civic seems to think what he feels in his gut or asshole's more believable than trained professionals, with a calibrated instruments, and experience in presenting tough-to-beat evidence in court. And all still true if the cops were bent, or just out for $$. Point is, the guy hasn't got the mature judgement it takes to drive safely, never mind that he said he hasn't got insurance or an operating speedometer.

Even if he had a rock solid case that the radar was wrong, he still should be hit w/ "Defectrive Vhicle" and "Without Insurance".

When presented with evidence that just because the LAW spoke it is not always the truth, it is explained that no one is perfect and that all we can do is try to believe in the right thing getting done.

As for overtime you take a look at public records and explain, if not for extra duties (overtime) how an individual making 70k for the year can more than double that by year end.

It's not all "extra duties", most times it's part of thier duties taking statements or having to stick around if you end up arresting someone close to the end of your shift. Yes, due to court delays, there is overtime paid for an officer's need to be present to testify on thier days off for court proceedings.

By the way..take a look at the "Golden List" and what you see alot of is Sgt and Detectives more so than regular PC, pulling in over 100 thousand.

You validate my point in reference to the "golden list", i personally do not care if it is only 2 pc's. My point is that just should not be acceptable at this stage. Making more than twice your salary from overtime or pay duty (how many hours in a week can you work and do a competent job?) These are public servants not private sector employees. I bet that when the financial's come out there will be another outcry as to where taxpayers dollars really go.

Just like the OP is human and screwed up, I only pointed out the same on the other spectrum. Should i be under the impression that professionals are above the human factor. We all have our moments, being here you would think that there may be a common ground amongst a few here. What is the difficulty in accepting that.

Well what is the worst that could happen if I attempt to fight it?

Here's how I intend to fight it:
Get a court date, request courtdate change by registered mail, request disclosure and details of the officers notes by mail..etc etc...pester them in every way possible. Lets take for example the officer had no notes of what I did or said, how can they defend themselves as a witness?

What about this radar calibration thing? What are the laws on obtaining records?

I'm not sure if you know this, but when you take your ticket to court, you don't fight the speed that your ticket was reduced to, you fight the original radar reading, this is what I was told by the UC when I was clocked at going 143 in a 100 zone.. but luckily for me .. the cop dropped it to going only 15 over. Which is more than a slap on a wrist for me..so I just paid the $52 fine.

Insurance was there, I just had the expired slip. And it was just two weeks ago that it expired.

Strangely enough my insurance wasn't canceled nor did I receive an updated slip.

Only amongst those that don't understand how to figure out the bottom line. Yes there are some cops working all the OT their contracts and the law will allow, however when you factor in the cost of benefits it's still cheaper to pay the OT than to hire more cops to eliminate the need for OT (after all the work has to be done by someone)

You misunderstood the officer. The ticket stays on your driver record for 2 years but it is 3 years for insurance...

I'll be a bit more cautious on the road..I'm not a perfect driver. I'm defensive though.

On your abstract no. Insurance Companies have a separate system where it will show up 3 years after the infraction date.
