Get off your high horse Dan. You're on an ESCORT REVIEW BOARD. Stop being a hypocrite. In your world everybody follows the law to a T. Isn't that nice. Do you also get tucked in at night with a pacifier?

Are you for real with statement like this, if guys liike you that make drivers nervous, because when you crash you take the drivers around you to the hospital or the grave! you are fucking tool
Humm...What crash? 1.5 MILLION KM of Driving in 17 years of working.
Last accident I was 17, and did something dumb.
I, my friend do not make drivers nervous.(I'm smooth safe and courteous)
Typically i won't do over 130km/h because I need my licence for work.
I can think of HUNDREDS km of Roadway were a Max limit of 200km wouuld be safe.(of course there are many more thousands were it would be not)
You guys just can't, (Or won't) answer the question.
Why is 100km/ hour magically safe AND fast enough for You..and what makes you know what I could possibly handle?
For some of us a daily 35km commute is not real experience.
Ohh and the tool comment? Very bright wildone...I can use tools, see not only can I drive well, I can fix the damn car as well.
So bugger off, jr!

Driving in Canada isn't about what kind of speed you can handle it is about getting safely from one place to another.

Professional drivers get in accidents on the track all the time, due to no fault of their own. The same thing would happen on the roads in Canada if speed were going unchecked.

I reread all my posts...Not quite sure where I said speed should be unchecked.
I think I argued for Higher Limits where appropriate.
Again I have gotten around Canada quite safely Thank you.(All provinces, all weather)
For Heaven's sake guys ...could you grow up....
I'm not saying that The DVP should be at a 200km limit...
But parts of the 401 could easily handle it.
race drivers are trying to win a race...not get "somewhere" they take chances.
What's the magical speed limit Hunter...where is that fine line?
And why is your opinion any more valid than mine?

I was aware of that, but thanks anyway for the reminder.

Is it too hard for you to understand the difference between making a mistake and overshooting the speed limit, and arguing that it is OK to ignore speed limits, if you are willing to pay the fines?

Sir...I did not say its ok to break the law.
I said the law is an ass, and speed limits MUST be raised.
Please read again.
You are correct, I apologize.

To me 180-200km/hour would be a reasonable maximum
2X the current limit. At plus those speeds it would be next to impossible to enforce the law without endangering lives (thus unchecked)

I don't recalling saying it was. This is a discussion and I offered a comment. It really isn't any different then your comments.

Just tell them the gas pedal got stuck or that something gor stuck on the gas pedal and you were trying to stop the car when you got caught...

Since he (I assume) drove away after receiving the ticket this defense will not work as the next question put to him will be "then why did you continue to drive it knowing that something was wrong with the car?"

So where is the fine line between fast enough/and too fast.
And why...would be enforcing a 200km limit and more dangerous than a 100 limit?
The new Laser speed meters are good for about 1200m...and the cops could still catch a speeder like they do now...
One on an overpass...5 -10 cars on the hwy to chase.
Simple.

Explain..please...why is 100 km/h so sacred?

oldjones we should not be hijacking this thread. I would like you to read the quote above though.

Hypocrite
I have repeated one small, but important point throughout: a good driver knows his speed. I even said sorry if I maligned you. The hijackings been all yours, this being your latest post that has little or nothing to do with our previous. If you're gonna give that up, I'm all for it.

Well I would not agree that 200 kph is a good idea. Firstly, many cars are not maintained well enough to be driven at that speed, but I would say 130-140 kph would be a good speed limit on expressways. On some inter provincial routes, 160 kph in dry clear and low traffic conditions should be tolerated. Local police should NOT be allowed to keep ANY revenue for enforcement as I think it misdirects policing priorities.

Many highways here in the US have posted speed limits of 75 mph or 120kph

Most people drive 10 over or 85 mph (135 kph)

I really need some advice too!

I was heading towards Whitby this morning to see a friend for a car.

My speedometer was not really working, and usually I would know what speed I am going at. I was driving along side another car going at the same speed as me and another car behind us who was travelling at the same speed as well.

I saw a speed trap but it was too late to slow down, but they singled me out and I was told to hit the shoulder lane.

Pulled over. Nice looking female cop walked up and spoke to me, I explained to her that I was driving the limit but my speedometer stopped working.

She took my DL/Insurance/Ownership and went off.

Came back with a ticket and my stuff. She told me that she will not give a ticket for expired insurance (expired a week ago) and she gave me a ticket for doing 95KM/hour in an 80km/h zone (this is taunton rd by the way).

I asked her what speed i was going at and she said 117KM/h. I asked to see the reading on the radar, and the male officer that was with her said "You don't need to see it, you can be on your way sir" I asked again, and he told me again to be on my way.

Here's some further details:

-15KM/h over speed limit
-says code "R" on ticket
-License plate # on ticket is incorrect
-I have a prior ticket with no points for 15 over.

Any suggestions? Please help me. I currently can't afford extra insurance, let alone an SP:p

Get a lawyer or one of the paralegal services, and appeal everything to the max. Deny everything, unless advised otherwise by your lawyer.

ok ok ...I know before I get flamed, I shouldn't have been speeding.

I was up north, wide open road. Got caught doing 142 in an 80km highway.

Ironic part is I was driving for all of 5 minutes, and just accelerated right into a trap!

So I had the pleasure of experiencing these new over 50 speeding laws.

7 day suspension of liscence, impounded car.

Court ruling is this week as to what fine I should get. Any advice from anyone who's been here? Should I get representation? Just go in and hope for the best and plead my case?

Any commentary welcome....
Perhaps some lives will be saved, including your own if you are not behind the wheel for a while. Were you a habitual offender, or was this your debut?

I believe that's most likely to work in Toronto where cops appear in court on their days off. Members of the OPP, on the other hand, have one court day scheduled per month.
