Please site the study you refer to.
There has not been a large or thorough study done for any extensive length of time.
Most studies that have been done are largely funded or instigated by those who would profit from this product. As a student I helped fill out forms for the class action suit done by Siskind Cromarty in London Ontario. Those settlements are just about to be paid out. Many if not most of those women included in that class action were women in their 20's or early 30's at the time they were adversely affected. Most had experienced severe symptoms long before Dow was sued. That had to be backed up with medical records.
Many of the women had such severe pain in their arms that they couldn't move their arms without painkillers. All the implants leak and they will eventually rupture. The women most effected were those with ruptures. Removal of the implants and silicone usually remedied the most extreme symptoms. Babies breastfed by women with silicone implants show much higher levels of platinum. The long term effects of that are yet to be known.
The new silicone implants are very different from the old ones because of the dangerousness of the former product. That is according to the makers.
Just like tobacco the purveyors of this product will always claim they are safe. It is very difficult to show causation even if co-relational evidense abounds.
Just like tobacco I would imagine it should be up to the individual to choose to endanger themselves by choosing such a product.
Women hate the saline implants because they are too hard. I would have hoped they could have come up with a safer filler by now -or even better, I wish there was no demand. Until such a time it looks like silicone is back and in 10 more years when the ruptures start again we will see a replay.
