I read a comment somewhere, maybe on Twitter, the Red Sox rotation has taken a nosedive since MLB announced their crackdown on "substance abuse" on baseballs. Probably just a coincidence.
ESPN did a whole segment on it yesterday, expect some of the top pitchers around the league to suddenly become quite average as their spin rate goes down.

But I'm sure thats all just a coincidence 😂

Why do they always bring in Dolis - so frustrating watching these guys and the bullpen. Great pitchers dual this evening from the starters.

Dolis is just awful. He must have dirty pictures of Montoyo or something to rationalize how often he's used. I don't know many games where he outright lost it (like tonight) or was brought in with a big lead and sucked so much they had to get someone to relieve him.

You just never know when Dolis is brought in, he's either hot or cold, what a waste of another good outing by Manoah and Vlad's 22 HR.

Completely irrelevant to what their policy is supposed to be and the precedent that they've set.
It’s relevant when you give a long term deal to a guy who can’t play a full season because he can’t stay healthy.

So that reinforces how much that they are not married to that policy, when discussing if they would be willing to give Vladdy more than 5 years to keep him.

I dont see how they're gonna police that though.
Are they gonna check the pitcher's hands before each inning??
And what if the pitcher simply waits until after the handcheck to put the goo on their hands??
An umpire can check a player's hands, arm, any part of his uniform at any point during the game.
The umpire can call time with a 2-2 count, 1 out, bottom 3rd, take a stroll:
"Hand me your hat, (have a look), okay, let's see your left forearm, cool, now hand me your glove."
Inspect at will.
He can do the same thing whenever he suspects there's something untoward happening.

They should also check every pitch's spin rate.
If its unusually high then right away do a mound visit

Usually the home plate umpire asks the catcher to give him the ball after a suspicious pitch. If it looks doctored, the umpiring team goes to the mound to check the pitcher for foreign substances. It makes more sense for the catcher to scuff the ball when its used for more than one pitch.

Due to the NHL playoffs, I haven't paid much attention to the Jays. However, I hear they are a .500 club and George Springer can't play because he is injured.

Just like Springer, Vernon Wells (remember him?) also signed a fat contract.
