Yeah, but can they play small ball?
Actually the Yankees lineup currently could , outside the big 3 sluggers they have speedy contact hitters like Gardner , Gregorious, Ellsbury, Hicks and the #1 prospect in baseball Gleyber Torres . Even with Stanton this wouldn’t be a one dimensional lineup like the Jays have had the last few seasons.

A helluva lot better then the Jays currently can
Jays may have no choice but load up on..pitchers to counterpunch the hitters! Or, expand the outfield of the Rogers Centre when they play the Yanks next season. LOL
No wonder Rogers is thinking of selling the team. The Red Sox look redundance right now in the division let alone talking about the Jays!

Can't they just tear down most of the stadium, somehow rebuild the bleachers, and start over again????
If this sounds like a stupid idea, that means I've been drinking tonight and its BEYOND stupid :(

Seriously though, is there no way they can refurbish our "little mistake by the lake"??

Scott Boras not happy about Stanton arriving in NY. Apparently he’s pissed because it will now be more difficult for the Yanks to offer his client Harper a mega contract next off season in FA. So he’s suggesting Cashman trade Ellsbury and Headley to free up more cash for Harper. There’s only a few teams able to afford a huge deal like the one Harper will want and if the Yanks decide they can’t afford another monster contract that limits Harpers options.

I can't blame him. I thought that all MLB GMs know that they are supposed to get Boorass' approval prior to any deals that may impact his clients.

As Richard Simmons once said, "Scott Boreass is a legend in his own mind".

The reason Rogers wants to sell is that the cost analysis on installing natural grass is prohibitive. The turnover isn't the problem, The Skydome was built without a drainage system and putting one in would cost more than extending a subway line. It was built to be self-sustained, it became obsolete when Camden Yards opened.

This is why there's is going to be a correction in the market. There's always going to be another two or three players that are "the next ones", but the amount teams that can afford to hand out those kind of contracts is shrinking. I believe the Giants and Dogers are still looking to spend money. Boston will probably have some money to spend soon, but probably want to spend it on Mookie Betts. One other team that might be looking to spend is the Angels, as the window to surround Trout with other good players to try and win is closing. The market is going to get very interesting over the next few years. One of these super stars is going to get a lot less because well will be a bit dry.

Or....

As we notice every year, once the biggest one or two free agents sign then the dominoes fall on down the line as the market has been set. So once teams make their top signings, there is only so much left in their budgets and if they have spent on the big names (not just to be competitive but also to generate/maintain fan interest) there will be less to spend on the rest of their roster.

So I think that that is where the market correction will occur. Not with the big stars, but everybody else.

It's like the American economy. The wealthy keep getting wealthier and everybody else struggles.

There's already been a correction in recent years. We've seen the change in how teams value players. Less money and less years for players that bring less overall value on the field.
Advanced stats are the norm in the industry now. Teams don't use RBI's/homers or wins/strikeouts stats to negotiate a contract anymore.
EE and Bautista hit free agency at the absolute worst time.
Chris Carter led the NL in homers in 2016 and he was only able to get peanuts on a one year deal. Trumbo hit 47 homers in the same year and only received a $12.5million/year for 3 years . While Jason Heyward scored a monster contract with the Cubs because he brings elite defense and running skills, even though the sexy stats may not look as good as a slugger like Chris Carter or EE.

Imagine if Joe Carter was in his prime right now. He likely wouldn't be a front line free agent like he was after the 1992 season.

Teams put a higher value on complete players which is how it should be.

Bautista still wants to play next year, he'd probably have to settle for about $3million in a bench role. That's what the market looks like at the moment.

Yes, but when I say a correction in the market place, I'm talking about players with similar skill sets where sooner or later one of these players is going to get the short end of the stick big time.

When a big market team like Toronto isn't even a consideration for the big ticket players, you know the market just isn't there for all these good players to keep getting these mammoth contracts. Even the big teams like NY and Boston, how many 30 million a year guys can you have? Not to mention, it's not good for the game. It's not healthy for the league to have one team like NY with a 300 million payroll, and teams like Tampa Bay or Oakland to have a payroll of 70 million. There need to be some sort of balance.

I don't watch the Jays religiously like I used to in the past. But, I can't get this thing out of my head that why can't J.Votto play for the Jays? Get rid of Morales and replace him with Votto. Votto can play first and DH. Need to find powers somehow to match with the bronx bombers for next season.
