Just tuned in. 2 men's on no outs. Saunders, Smoak and Pillar all go down. Not even a productive out. Never happened last year it seems.

Ugh glad I'm off the bandwagon.

Hey, weren't you the guy always posting in Aug that we had the same record at the same point in 2015? I thought that was pointless cuz we were clearly surging last year, and stumbling this year. Momentum matter in elite sports, and maybe most in baseball.

Just for shitz & giggles, what was our record last year after the same # games?
These are simply probabilities based on years and years of history. Some of those teams had momentum and some of them didn't.

Do you have stats on how teams without momentum (BTW, what are the quantitative measures of momentum) fared versus teams with momentum?

Those were relevant numbers george posted and I suspect you have no numbers more so in regards to momentum.

Feel free to enlighten us as to the "true" probabilities.

The Jays offense STINKS to high heaven.

A team with such a shitty offense doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs.

The Toronto Blue Jays offence ranks 4th in the American League (of 15),
6th in MLB (of 30) in runs scored.

this is getting painful to watch. So far 21 batters left on base. Looks like it will be 3 games behind Boston now. Why the hell is Smoak playing? Can't hit and an error.

I agree they made some good moves and have a proven history for building a "competitive" team, but they have never won.
Like I said at the trade deadline, Cleveland never acquires big names trading away the future. But this year they got the stopper Andrew Miller giving up prospects and it looks like that could be the difference to take them all the way.

They built a good foundation in Cleveland for success, but any winning that happens this year or next, Shapiro/Atkins can't take all the credit.

What he did for Toronto this year, we got Benoit, Upton and Liriano.
Very early on in May, it was evident Cecil was not himself, and we needed LH reliever in a bad way, We suffered thru Loup, Cecil and that ambidextrous guy Pat something. Gibby often had to leave in a RH guy to face LH hitters which also cost games.
He didn't get us a LH arm in the bullpen.

Early on, we could see this was a Right dominated, high SO, low BA, all-or-nothing, live and die by the HRs team. We needed a LH batter, contact hitter who could keep the rallies going; kinda like a LH Travis. Instead he got us Upton. He's been better of late, but still kills a lot of rallies.

Not addressing these needs contributed to this Sept tailspin.
Very good points.

Too bad we cannot string some hits together or it would have been a different game tonight...

Yay, we avoided being shutout again. I fear too little way too late.

Jays offensive stats are deceiving. There are a few games where they score a ton of runs but too many games where they score only 0, 1 or 2. On average they look good. Sort like the guy who drowned in a lake with an average depth of 3 feet.

What a stinker! Seems like it would be easy pickins versus the 4-12 Nolasco. Lousy defense , poor baserunning, lack of timely hitting. The Jays can be one of the most frustrating team to follow.

Stranding base runners and making defensive errors is not an effective way to make the playoffs...

Can someone PLEASE inform the Jays?!?!?

(Since they seem to be oblivious to this fact...)

There's folks on this forum oblivious to this fact as well. Often quoting full year stats which mask the recent suckage.

Decent start for Liriano who pitched well enough to win. 2 earned over 6. Everybody else sucked. The only silver lining is that they have 1 more game against the useless A's and all other WC contenders also lost, including Seattle.

Just read JB extended his on base streak to 25 games, not hitting much but still has good eye and fouls off pitches to take walks. OBP near .400 in that stretch. I actually think JB could be a good DH/1B (like Edwin) in the twilight of his career, IF we can get him to sign a reasonable contract.

Well we have Stroman going against an Angels rook named Meyer 0-3 w 8.18 ERA in 3 starts.
Which means it should be a nailbiter ;)

Here
The Bosox just refuse to lose more than they win... they are 19 & 8 since mid-August... the BJ's are 14 & 15...

BJ's will have to go 10 & 4 or 11 & 3 to have even a chance of catching them and I don't think they have what it takes... even then the Bosox would have to go 7 & 7 or worse the rest of the way...

I doubt that the Tigers, Mariners or Astros have what it takes to make up 3 games for the the second WC so, at best, it looks like the BJ's will have to play the Orioles for the WC spot and I doubt that they have what it takes to beat them, either... and not a hope against the Rangers should they be lucky enough to get that far!

Except for a miracle... dat, dat, dat's all folks!
