Not according to John Gibbons.
Aaron Sanchez will remain his 8th inning guy (as per tonight's postgame press conference).
Yeah I don't think anyone really believes that including Gibby.
Sanchez has been struggling and Cecil has been lights out.

Mr. Gibbons can be a little stubborn...took him a month to put Revere in lead off spot. Cecil is perfect to go against Yanks and the overly lefty line up. Lowe should be 8th inning guy..unless a bunch of lefties, than Cecil. Osuna remains fine for closer.....nobody's perfect. Speaking of nobodys perfect...at Sundays game Rob and Doug Ford waddled in during the second inning....and left after the fourth (section 118). Rob did not look well (for the record - Rob was a disaster as mayor...and his lifestyle a disgrace...but one on one, he is a nice guy - an overgrown kid)

Ol' Gibby was much quicker taking Sanchez out tonight than he would have been in the past.

What the fuck does Sanchez have to do to lose his spot?

The impressive thing with Cecil is that they all know the hook is coming with 2 strikes yet they can't lay off.

I get such a good laugh every day with the TERB managerial moves.

Gibbons has them in first yet he's a "moron". The moron's are the ones who think they can make better in game decisions than he does.

Come on Shack, at the end of the day baseball is all just a silly game.

You remind me of a buddy I go golfing with sometimes, he thinks we should all hit like PGA pro's.

I always tell him, dude, lighten up. Have fun with the game. Dont take it so seriously ;)

Unless you're playing the Yankees, then take this shit very seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For sure there can be fun to be had by speculating.

However there is a big difference in "speculating what if he'd done this" and saying "the manager is a moron" because a move didn't work out. Every single person in every circumstance will make errors at some frequency. Obviously gibbons has made a hell of a lot more good decisions than bad this year. So many players have performed so admirably. Why is there so such condemnation when games are lost. Why do TERBites try to make it sound like they know so much more than the professionals who have so much more information at their disposal?

No problem speculating but people should ease off on the "I am smarter that the stupid manager/GM", "why in the world did he do that" posts.

The Joy of September baseball, let's hope it's not a passing fad.

But for that to happen Paul Beeston has to use his powers of persuasion to get AA to sign an extension. When that happens we'll have a serious shot at signing Price. It's either all or nothing depending on Beeston, he has another 7 weeks to get it done.

Gene Mack's Jays Travel commercial is oddly reassuring.

If Gibby is going to keep going to Sanchez in hi leverage situations, he better get talking to Paul Walker and find out WTF is happening to this kid's head or his arm. If Sanchez melts down yet again with the series on the line, there is going to be an uproar.

I had to be VERY firm with Gibby about his putting Cola in LF, but eventually he agreed to stop after I bitch-slapped him 3 or 4 times and the team never looked back. I may have to go over there again....

Article on playoff roster considerations.

One think I will say about the current crop of fans that are selling out the rogers centre, they are waaaaay louder and make more noise than the crowds in the early 90's when we were winning world series. I also love the fact you look out there, and it's just sea of blue with every wearing blue jays apparel.

I am probably the only guy who would have left Sanchez in for another batter last night. They did have a bit of breathing room last night, and this team is MUCH better with Sanchez being effective. He's a young reliever, confidence is obviously fragile. If Gibby lets him try to work it out and he succeeds he could be a tangible asset over the next 6 weeks. If he can't get his confidence back he is going to be the long man. Not saying leaving him in would have worked, it could have backfired, but in my opinion better to find out with a 4 run lead than a 1 run lead. It's a matter of looking at big picture-does this team need Sanchez pitching well to succeed. If that's the case, you may as well take your lumps now as in a week. If he isn't an important piece of the puzzle, then play it that way and make him a long guy. Right now they have lots of relievers, but a few are struggling -Hawkins has not been great, Osuna a little shaky last few weeks, Sanchez shaky. Lowe, Cecil and Hendriks have been solid, and I think they will stay that way, but is that enough?

Not Gibby's biggest fan, but have to agree with Shack, Jays are in first by 3 1/2, and they are getting it done!

.
SNet showed a lot of close ups of Sanchez sitting on the bench. He looked lost and scared. He turned a comfortable 4 run lead into a nail biter with the heart of the Yanks order coming up.
He has lost confidence and there's literally tons of young relief pitchers with great stuff who have become ineffective because they lost confidence.

The Sanchez thing is tough. Remember last year he was an excellent closer at the end of season. Lights out. But it is inexcusable to walk the lead off hitter when you got a 4 run lead and a 96 mph fast ball. I would rather live with a home run than a walk in that situation. Then he seemed to have his fastball working against their 9th place hitter and he throws a breaking ball (you could see it from 515). Who called that pitch?

I have never called Mr. Gibbons a moron or anything like that. I have argued that he is a liability because of his style, his lack of experience in the post season, and I have questioned a few of his moves or non moves (leaving Tulo at lead off way too long - failing to pinch run for Encarnacion on Saturday and a couple others) . I call him Mr. Gibbons because it reminds me of a bunch of good kid players forming a team, and then saying hey we need a manager...and then getting one of the fathers to manage - usually a good ole boy who likes his suds. So Mr. Gibbons looks more like a father of one of the players .

This!!

From @TaoofStieb:

You're so much smarter than Gibby, except that he's managed 1082 games, and you're paying $10 a beer to inflate your sense of self worth.

I'm sorry oagre I don't like your chances. Unlike us pampered Toronto dudes, Gibby had a hardscrabble upbringing in Montana. He learned to ride a horse almost from the day he could walk and has earned a living as a cattle herder. And he can handle himself - just ask Ted Lilly! May I suggest you work your way up to Gibby by taking on DeMarlo Hale, but you won't get very far with him either.

Gibby could kick all our asses blindfolded, you don't mess with a cowboy.

Meh. I just had to be firm with him. And I told him to straighten up and suck in his gut as well. In the end, he thanked me for taking the time.

I gave him your name and address when he asked who I was.
