After last night, I think AA missed the boat. Darvish is for real! Rangers made the right move in signing him.
As for taking the 50 million and signing a position player, he missed the boat there too. Fielder would have cost more than that but he too would have been worth it cause at the moment we have EE and damn little else that hits with any consistency.
Does anyone have any insight into the failed bid. As I understand it Texas got the right to negotiate by being the highest bidder for that right. As Texas only just topped Toronto with both bidding around $51million it seems very odd that they could hardly be separated. If both bids were made 'blind' that sounds like remarkable good fortune for Texas or some colusion by interested parties?

One month in..........

Numbers now matter.

Jose Bautista and Adam Lind need to get their act together.
Yunel Escobar needs to simply wake up.
Eric Thames and Edwin Encarnacion have been pleasant surprises.
Arencibia is a project but his time will be limited if Mathis keeps batting over 300.
Colby Rasmus and Kelly Johnson are treading water and need to do more.
The shine is coming off Brett Lawrie, he brings energy but what else? Sophmore jinx?
Starting pitching has been adequate but by no means stellar.
Relief pitching needs some work and some confidence.

Now. Before it's too late.

Not sure where I heard this, but , I am led to believe Jays weren't even close to the Rangers bid. If the story I heard is true and the Jays were second, the Rangers out bid the Jays by approximately 15 million. I am not aware of any confirmation the Jays were second or how many bidders there were. The early story was the Jays were bidding 51 million and when the news broke, I thought the same as you, "something stinks here".

Yu pitched well but with his price tag i think his postseason play will determine if he is worth it or not (IMO)

I think it's still a little too early to say if AA missed the boat or not. Let's see if Yu can still dominate after he's gone through a round with all the teams and there is a better scouting book on him. Also, Yu costed the Rangers over $100+ M, not $50M as the $51M was just for the rights to negotiate with him and he also got another $50M for 5 years. At the end of the day, $100+ M for a crap shoot is a big gamble. So far it's paying off for the Rangers, but if they don't win it all with Darvish, I'm sure you'll hear a lot of Ranger fans chirping.

What the man said. Even if Darvish turns out to be the new Pedro or Randy Johnson, there is still a cost-benefit analysis given the huge amount of cash involved. Even a dominant HoF Darvish may not help the team as much as a solid non HoF starter like Romero or Drabek and a stack of cash in the bank will.

I gave up on the game today and thought that the Jays were going to skid again. Big mistake! they fought back from a 5-0 deficit and showed major character and offensive grit.

Greg Zaun made a good point earlier. With all the breaking balls he throws, It will be interesting to see of his elbow holds out. Remember Fernado Valenzuela? Right now, he's an effective pitcher, but let's keep the accolades for sometime down the road.

Be patient Jays fans ... I know it's tough. But remember an MLB season isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. I don't think the Jays will challenge for a playoff spot this season unless all the stars align. I like to look at the positives down the road. I think Drabek will continue to blossom this season, he's exhibited much more poise and control so far this year vs last season. Lawrie is the real deal folks. Wait for the talent (especially pitching) on the farm to break into the bigs. By 2014 this team may have the nucleus of young talent that may contend for several years. This team is following the Tampa Bay model, which seems to have worked for the Rays. The Jays can't throw the money around that teams like the Yankees, Bo Sox and several other American teams can. Fox Sports has been throwing money around like drunken sailors giving obscene money for local rights to select teams. Texas has inked a deal with Fox which will pay the team close to $1 million PER game for local TV rights starting next year for example. That's why they went all in on Darvish, they can't wait to spend all that new cash.

back to back over the Rangers, EE is hot, another dinger, Johnson. another homer batting in the lead off spot, Escobar 3 for 5 from the 2 spot. Lind rested. Romero 8 innings.
I forgot the damn thing was on and missed it.

I was at the game on Monday night, and can tell you Darvish looks exceptional. Wish we had him.

Encarnacion for MVP!:)
If he hits at this pace for the next 5 months, yup. I'm just waiting for Tony B to warm up so those 2 guys can race each other to back to back 50 dingers.

I would like to see Gose replace Rasmus, and Adeiny Hechavarria replace Escobar. Prob won't happen this year, but eventually I mean.

He won for the month of April.
Wrong.

Josh Hamilton (Texas Rangers) was the American League Player of the Month for April 2012.

E.E. was the Blue Jays P. o. t. M.
