Most forget that Jeff Kent spend some time in Toronto. Although very briefly. If Alomar didn't have a death grip on the position at time, who knows?
The Jays traded him for All-Star pitcher David Cone, without whom they wouldn't have won their first World Series. I'd make that trade ten times out of ten.

And keep in mind Kent didn't become a star until five years later with the SF Giants. Very productive bat, but he's lousy defensively and a clubhouse drama queen.

I guess everyone contributed on the '92 team but I thought David Cone was overrated with the Jays (4-3 w/l regular season, 1-1 -1 w/l post season) Like I said who knows. I remember the year prior they had a chance to get Randy Johnson but picked up Rick Henderson instead.

So anywho, I wanted to buy Canseco's laetest book 'Vindicated', I walk to Indigo they wanted $29.95 for it, so I said no way Jose (pun intended) and instead found a nice comfy chair inside their bay/bloor store.

I read the first 100 pages yesterday, 50 more pages this afternoon and I'll probably read
the remainder tonight or tomorrow.

I can tell you the book aint worth $30, hell it's not even worth 5 bucks.
He does his usual bit of complaining how he's been blackballed by MLB, how he's been a victim of racism, and he names more names (but I havent gotten to that part yet).

For a multi-millionaire he does a fair bit of whining and complaining.
He's also giving me the impression he may be broke or near broke

So in a nutshell dont waste your money on the book, there's nothing revealing in it.

they get out jams in the 7th and 8th, here we go in the 9th Accardo hits the batter allows a triple and then Scutaro goes and makes a bad throw to home and just like that  the A's are leading 4-3
Got worse. 2 painful losses in 2 nights. Accardo doesn't seem to be right for the temporary role right now.

How about a trade? Accardo to Boston for Manny DelGagne .... errrrr DelCarmen. If he doesn't work out, Frank Thomas can use him for his batting practice pitcher. If Thomas goes to the All-Star game this year and enters the HR derby, I hear he is taking DelGagne.

I'm not liking this return to the play well vs. the good teams and sloppy vs. the bad teams trend from the last few seasons...

Former Jay Ed Sprague took steroids: report

Also admits to using amphetamines, corked bat during major league career

While the Toronto Blue Jays were winning back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993, there's a good chance third baseman Ed Sprague was filled with performance-enhancing substances.

In a recent interview with Recordnet.com, Sprague admitted to taking steroids and using a corked bat to help inflate his statistics

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/story/2008/04/11/sprague-drugs.html

Do you think that if, by chance, Sprague was pals with Brian McNamee, maybe he (Mac) may have stuck a needle into Spragues wife's butt in the bedroom while he was not home. Afterall, she did win an Olympic gold in syncro-swimming. ;)

back to back wins in Texas

Doc was just awesome tonight....Halladay allowed only one Texas baserunner to reach third and retired 15of 16 hitters in one stretch. The only exception in that span came when Halladay hit Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler with what appeared to be a purpose pitch in the bottom of the third, in retaliation for Texas starter Luis Mendoza (0-1) hitting Hill in the top of the inning.

this seems to be a hard to figure out team they swept Boston, then Oakland swept them and then they go and play a team that has not only dominated the Jays but really destroy them and they take the first 2 out 3....

Having won the first two games of the series, the Jays enter Sunday with a chance to complete their first three-game sweep in Texas since April 26-28, 1985.

Blue Jays or Road Runners ????

It has been a decade since the Blue Jays led the Major Leagues in stolen bases for the first and only time in franchise history. But after swiping four more to help win Friday's series opener in Texas, no club in either league could match Toronto's total of 13 steals through 10 games entering play Saturday.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only time Toronto ever led the Majors (or the American League) in steals was 1998, when Shannon Stewart's 51 thefts led the team, with the team tallying a total of 184.

Last year's team finished with only 57 steals, which ranked 13th among the 14 AL teams and 27th among the 30 teams in the Majors. Toronto hasn't stolen more than 72 bases in the last six years. But at their current pace, the 2008 Jays would steal 72 before the end of May.

It is nice to see Halladay get the win but I am surprised that they let him go the full 9 so early in the season.

Yeah, but 110 pitches for a workhorse like Halladay (often pitches better on less than normal rest and all that) isn't too crazy. It's not Dusty Baker-ish territory.

True but Hallday isn't getting any younger but I will defer to the baseball guys.
(I remember Dave Stieb if he was ahead they should have just let him finish the game no matter what. :p )

That '98 team had 88 wins, the best total over the last tens years.

They really needed a CG performance out of Halladay. The bullpen was worked really hard over the last four games, and Accardo needs some time to get his head in order.
