So you believe that unions CREATE high paying jobs out of thin air,...???

FAST
Nope. But they do help keep wages at a decent level. Without unions every factory and semi skilled jib would pay minimum wage. Is that really what you want? A country full of working poor? Go to the southern US and see how they like it.

Unions have a place, but they constantly and epidemically overstep themselves and shoot themselves in the foot. I've had the privilege (or horror) of seeing it play out time and time again. They're almost as bad as the government for forcing unreasonable concessions...only the government can increase taxes so they don't go under.

Unions could serve such an important role, but instead they get greedy.

So the non-unionized Honda plant in Alliston and the non-unionized Toyota plants in Cambridge and Woodstock only pay minimum wages?

Honda would love to pay minumum wage. What employer wouldn't? If there weren't unionized plants in existence before they opened, they'd pay much less. The only reason they pay similar to union wages is to keep the union out.

And let's not go down the whole corporate welfare road, of which all car manufacturers are recipients of. Obviously the govt might have something to say with an across the board wage cut, but if it did happen how quickly would the employees finally decide to unionize?

Anyway, I'm not going to convince you anti Union guys so what's the point? Let the unions leave, let big business and corporations cut wages and then maybe you will all be happy? Do you really think corporations care about workers? They'd have slaves and machines if they could. I hope.you all voted for Tim Hudak because he wanted to make Ontario a right to work province. That would have destroyed unions. Isn't that what you want?

Employers are already doing this. They're offering buyouts to older workers and employment packages during negotiations that are favorable in the short term. But they'll also include demands, such as the ability to hire future employees on contract, that eventually lessen the power of unions . Of course the older workers will vote for a package that includes this because they'll be leaving before the contract ends and who cares what happens after that?

It's call union busting.

When all the union busting is done, hope you are happy with lower wages, and employers who will have absolutely zero incentive to keep Canadian people employed with decent wages. They'll hire people fresh out of school, or fresh out of the immigration office for a quarter of your wage. I'm by no means a union apologist, but seriously, you anti-union guys better be careful what you wish for. Without a union, that manufaturing plant mentioned above me would have moved to Mexico sooner than they already did.

I buy cans for two reasons.

First they are lighter and do not break in my hockey bag - essentially convenience

Second, I have a buddy who does some work at Molson and he tells me (2nd hand so I can't be 100% sure this is factual but it sounds good) that ALL the guys on the line only take home and drink from cans. They say it is because the cans are only used once and that the SHIT that comes out of the bottles when they are wasted and sanitized is just about enough to make you want to throw up. Think about all the times someone put a cigarette out in a bottle.

Meh...think about who used that plate/fork/glass before you at the diner. Probably better not to actually

If I was forced to join a union,...I sure as hell would NOT want my union dues going to support a political party I don't support,...but hey,...nobody ever said that unions believed in democracy,...

You missed the point,...if a person is forced to pay union dues,...that person is forced to support a political party that may not be his choice,...

I am none of your examples above,...but do support the PCs,...but I do not belong to any group/union that makes a mockery of the election system.

But if that's what unions want,...welcome to the Fiberal party,...bought and paid for by mob rule.

See how the public sector union threatens conservatives and anyone else who disagrees with them with physical violence. The threat is if u go against them they'll have u arrested, beatin or ruin/boycott your business like the mob. There is always an underlying threat in their propaganda. I'll say it again and again the Ontario public sector unions have morphed into a criminal organization a bigger threat to this country than any terrorist. Thousands are dying in our health system because they won't allow the necessary changes to make it better. Our education system is garbage. Municipalities won't expand public transit cause their afraid of the union. No business will ever come here in a significant way with the threat hanging over as has been the case for years.

Hyperbole much? Why don't you go jerk off to a Warmington article and let reasonable people have a conversation.

Everyone, you see the tone of physical violence in the video. Its ok for the union to threaten but if someone in the public said she was going to punch smoke in the face in self-defence you know the cops would be on it in a second. Opseu should be charged with assault for running that video.
