It's now becoming abundantly clear that Auston Matthews will become the best player the USA has ever produced. Will he do for the Staley Cup Playoffs what Joe Namath did for the Super Bowl?
At least two of those goals were into an empty net with the goalie sitting on the bench. Obviously, Winnipeg is trying to inflate his goals total.Patrik Laine has 36 goals in 71 NHL games
Don't forget Laine missed 8 games to injury, if he had played the same number of games as Matthews they would be just about even in goals and points. At least two of those goals were into an empty net with the goalie sitting on the bench. Obviously, Winnipeg is trying to inflate his goals total.
Why you have so much hate on a 18 years old kid rookie. You think you can to better than Patrik Laine .At least two of those goals were into an empty net with the goalie sitting on the bench. Obviously, Winnipeg is trying to inflate his goals total.
Why do you think it's "hate" when he was merely stating how many empty goals Laine had ? How stupid is it to suggest that you should only criticize someone if you're better ?Why you have so much hate on a 18 years old kid rookie. You think you can to better than Patrik Laine .
It's jackjackjohnson reincarnated.Shut up smuddan, The leafs will never win other cup ever again. Loser since 1967.
Sounds like it.It's jackjackjohnson reincarnated.
You mad sister ?Shut up smuddan, The leafs will never win other cup ever again. Loser since 1967.
1967 was the last time that the NHL only had 6 teams. The only good thing the Leafs have are the Three rookies
I am seeing the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Chicago Blackhawks winning this year.
Edmonton Oilers has a chances to win this year
They sound more like fraternal twins to me.It's jackjackjohnson reincarnated.
Mind you Laine has 2 better and more experienced line mates. Matthews played with rookies all season. Had Matthews played with JVR all season at all? Nope. Why you have so much hate on a 18 years old kid rookie. You think you can to better than Patrik Laine .
Agree with Smuddan, great analysis. It is so hard to compare Wendel Clark and Auston Matthews rookie statistics based solely on goal scoring as the type of games each played in are so different, just like the style of game each played are so very different. The dynamics that they brought to their teams was/is so very much different.
Clark had 23 fights in his rookie season and spent 227 minutes in the penalty box. This equates to almost 4 more games in total time that he missed (Auston has 14 minutes). His shooting percentage was also higher at just over 20% while Matthews is in the 13% range. The amount of fights and physically toughness that Wendel had, could be argued, took a physical toll on his body that Matthews does not have to face on a nightly bases. Imagine if Wendel had Austons Overall size (4" in height and 20lbs in weight).
Both were/are great players and their games gave and are bringing excitement to the fans. Admire both for what they are. Clark will always be loved in the city for how he played and Matthews will attain legend status if he continues to play at the level he is now. If he does, and there is no reason to doubt he will keep improving, he will most likely be considered the greatest Maple Leaf ever by the end of his career. It is amazing the maturity level Matthews has at such a young age.
I can think of someone who makes the Leafs pale in comparison.LEAFS are losers
We have a returning jeopardy champion in our midst.LEAFS are losers
