The only total eclipse I ever saw was in Winnipeg on July 20, 1963. I was 17 at the time. It was a clear day, and the sunny sky turned to midnight for a couple of moments. Truly memorable.

In Toronto I saw the 70% partial eclipse on a partially sunny day in 2017. A bit underwhelming as the skies remained reasonably bright throughout.

It's too bad that cloud cover will likely spoil today, as I probably won't be alive for the next total eclipse in Toronto, which is predicted for the year 2144.

Of course neither will you guys...

The last total eclipse in Toronto was in 1925.

I will watch it on the tv. Too cloudy to see anything.

It's been a bucket list thing for me and was HOPING for clear weather but mother nature has decided otherwise.
And I don't feel sorry for those people who overpaid for hotel rooms to be in Niagara to view this eclipse.

Not true, at least this morning. There is a layer of clouds, but the sun can be seen as a disk, though not bright enough to require any special eyewear. We should be able to see the transition fairly well, but no corona, planets or comets. Anyone going to great expense to be here is liable to be disappointed...
...UPDATE...
Well, what it looked like this morning wasn't how it turned out this afternoon. Cloud cover thickened enough so you could only get a general idea of where the sun actually was. It got dark briefly and the temp change was certainly noticeable, but that's about it. It was supposed to possibly effect animal behavior, but my little dog slept through it. The guy on the radio said the sun briefly almost broke thru over NF, but here in Lewiston it was kind of a meh...

I saw 85% solar eclipse in Montreal, March, 1970

The sky didn't get much darker; certainly less than 20%. We watched it through home-made eclipse glasses. I think we used three or four layers of plastic photographic negatives as eye protection, and that worked fine.

Oh it just happened. It got really dark in my computer room and not keeping track of time and forgetting I just assume it was night, but then I saw this thread, looked up and ohh It's day again.

Kind of amazing that the moon is just the right size and the right distance from both the earth and the sun to achieve a total eclipse with just the sun's corona showing!

Maybe there is a God...

I am pretty sure going to Niagara was a complete and total waste of time. 😂

Went to HTO Park, full cloud cover. However it did get quite dark. But when the eclipse cleared up, so did the cloud cover and I snapped a few pics. Note: the actual eclipse at its peak was fuller than this.

Or that the Earth is in the sweet spot where it can sustain liquid water and life. It won the cosmic lottery.

Didn't look at it directly. I looked outside to see how dark it was, and to see how many neighbours were out to watch.

No, there isn't.

So many cultures believe "their God" is THE GOD so you can see how insane that idea is really. Who is right?
Well, that caused and is still causing a lot of problems around the world.

So no "maybe".

I went to Burlington instead. Got partially sunny skies and saw the eclipse 100%.
The total eclipse lasted for about 1:15 minutes. Pretty damn awesome!!

I'll upload pics tomorrow

Still a maybe. If there is an entity powerful enough to create our universe, it's way beyond human comprehension. Anyone who tells you "God says" or "God wants" is a total; fraud, that's all...

I just came home to south Sauga 2:30 instead of my usual 3:30 to avoid nut bar drivers for the 20km of my home commute during the fullish part of the eclipse.
Sun partially slipped from the clouds after full event for me, so we saw 5/8 of moon coverage for about 1 minute until the next cloud came by.

Neat, but over all rather underwhelming to me.
Thank god no real news happened today, because TV news media made their day 100% on this 'event'.

So many clouds and only seen small parts of the eclipse.
But was surprised how quickly it got dark and how quickly the sun light came back out.
