Hot investment tip: Theranos. They make a compact blood analyzer that tests for many indicators from a small drop of blood. Get in on the ground floor, now.

Why not outsource CP to Amazon? I see an amazon truck in my neighborhood a couple of times a day. Why can't that truck deliver the mail as well? Geez get creative for Christ's sake.

Because tomorrow Amazon will decide to charge 10 times more for delivering all essential mail, and what are you going to do?

you believe Canada Post needs to be aligned with every other sector except for .............the need to be competitive and profitable
how convenient for you to ignore the reality that every other sector faces.

"every joe blow out there" knows if his company does not control costs and make a profit, then he is out of a job
Does healthcare need to be profitable? Does the police need to be profitable? Does the fire department need to be profitable?
The mistake people are making is that they look at Canada Post as for-profit business. It's not and it shouldn't be.

Ford is going to spend $3B dollars next year to give everyone in Ontario $200 dollars. So, that's not even such a big deficit as people try to make it be.
The difference is Ford is not running a company. These are not deficits, they're financial losses.

We are well past essential paper mail these days.
Really? How do you get your driver's licence? OHIP? Do you know how people get their disability cheques and so on and so forth. Not even talking that every country must have their own Postal Service to not rely on other country mercy if something goes wrong...

Canada Post should definitely not be egregiously wasteful because they are non-profit neither. Efficiencies and improvements should be a constant with all government operations and the underwriter taxpayers should not be taken for granted .

What difference does it really make? I would rather have Canada Post and don't have $200 then vice versa.

I totally agree. But people here propose to abolish or sell it to private company. Which is an extremely bad solution.

Canada Post is a proprietary governmental organization... meaning they have a P & L. It is not like health care etc.
Yes, it's a Crown corporation. But it's owned by the government of Canada which use tax payer money. So, yeah, i would like it to be more efficient and profitable, but saying that P&L matters here is not very accurate.

Cheques... Direct Deposits or deposits on pre-paid cards. It is already being done elsewhere.
Licenses etc... have them printed out real time when the person is there... no need to use mail.
Other countries... ok you have me... but that is where outsourcing to Amazon or other 3rd party comes in. Make them bid on it. It would not be a monopoly. UPS, Fedex, Puralotor (yes this is CP), Amazon all drive deliver.

Snail mail is becoming obsolete... time to think ahead and modernize operations.

We know.

I don't know where you are going with this. You not connecting any dots.
Simple. I don't look at Canada Post as a business that needs to post profit. I look at Canada Post as an essential service. The way is structured is irrelevant to me as at the end of the day Canada Post is owned by Canadian government.
