Apple going down the drain?

Why the animosity towards someone buying a new phone. I like getting a new one every couple years, and I'm going from 4S to 5S. How does that make me one of the "fanboys must go out and buy the latest and greatest"? Although I like how you do admit it is actually the latest and greatest lol.
Look... here's the deal with Apple:
Jobs was the driving force. Like him or not HE is the only reason they did as well as they did. They are completely useless at coming up with any original ideas... Jobs had an uncanny ability of finding a neat product, repackaging it in a cool case, and then re-merchandising it as a new product. He also had the foresight and connections in the entertainment world to make it "cool" to own one. He did it time and time again...
His products were all pretty good... but they aren't GREAT! They were pretty much all proprietary, (a lot of people are PO'd about the chargers, lack of upgrade-ability, and battery issues...) and if something ever went wrong with them, a real pain in the ass to get fixed... but that was OK for their fans... cuz it was "COOL"!
He was a master marketer, and my hats off to him for being able to pull the wool over the sheep's eyes and make a gazillion dollars in the process.
He also made a lot of enemies... he was quite the asshole apparently.
But... he's gone now, let him rest in peace.

- Macbook is a "cool" laptop

He actually left apple, rather was kicked out. Apple did just fine without him back then.

Huh? Seriously??? While you are right that he WAS kicked out, and it did do OK for awhile, but then his luster faded quickly and Apple was going down in flames in the late 80/ early 90's, and was struggling when they brought Jobs back (through a take over of NeXT). Upob taking the reigns once again, much like the fabled phoenix rising from the ashes, he "came up" with the imac, ipod, iphone, ipad etc, and made it the company it is today.
Won't argue with you there either.

Apple is becoming a niche player for wealthy and trendy. In manhatton and San Francisco, majority still own iPhone . Its like a uniform of the cool and rich. Even though its functionality lags behind Android.
On what do you base this on? As far as functionality, it does just about everything I need it too and really haven't heard anyone you has say, 'I wish it could do this."
I dropped all my AAPL last year when it was way up. They are a trendy kind of brand but trends change. Having the lastest Apple gear isn't as interesting as it was a few years ago. I dropped RIM years ago, thank god.
Right now it seems like Samsung and many other players are making big moves and apple is falling behind.
I still love my Apple products, but when I'm shopping next for a gadget or tech item I will be looking at a wider range of brands than I would have in the past.

Okay gents.
So what should I do next? I still use my trusty BB Torch, but times are a changing. One guy likes his Q10 but I guess anything new is better than an older model.
I understand that Android will have BBM. The Samsung smart phones are highly touted (is there a version 4 out now?).
I don't want a 'note' product that is so big, yet certain professionals like those cuz they don't have to lug a tablet.
What should I do? (I'm not leaning towards an iPhone).
Say what you will about Apple and their products. The company has carved out a niche for itself and its profits speak for themselves despite their market share of mobile phones. The comment about windows having stability issues due to having to support a wide range of hardware devices is spot on. One thing I can say about Apple computers (I have an iMac now for 3 years after being a PC guy for over 25 years), is all of my Apple devices (iMac and iPhone 5, iPad Mini) work flawlessly together. I couldn't say that for my Samsung Galaxy S phone I had when I first got my iMac.

That's what I hear other satisfied Apple customers say. (I know of one friend who's an engineer and he was using a MAC since time immemorial, however, when his own business expanded, the office staff use PCs, but his own preference is a MAC).
Yes, 6-8M phones (estimate) is a niche player, must be the lack of Android malware that is keeping it from being popular and functional?

Actually, as a matter of fact, I have used my iPhone across Canada, the USA, most of Europe, and Asia. It worked flawlessly, good luck doing that with a Galaxy.
PS...I never drink anybody's Kool Aid and I will never stand in any line for the privilege of giving someone my hard earned money. But I will buy the best product for myself that it think is what I need regardless of manufacturer or price.
I wish iPhone had swype keyboard. I cannot type without one. When I receive text messages from iphone users I know instantly because they are full of spelling errors. I use Android app called Keymonk that lets you swype with two fingers, makes typing almost as fast as physical keyboard.
But if you live in a rich neighbourhood and among rich trendy people, not having an iphone is like not being part of the social circle. Brand awareness is important for sales, just as lululemon and starbucks are able to charge more than double the competitors with maybe marginally better products.

You article is not much more than the writers opinions and observed facts on a commuter train, little else. Maybe these people he observed just like the functionality of the iPhone and not because of their status.
Clearly the users mentioned here aren't that interested in having the latest and greatest, just a smartphone that does what they want, save a few bucks, and hey with a look that they like.
I am a developer, so I know iOS does not allow developers to modify keyboard design. It's a blackbox feature. Android does. Android gives developer almost complete freedom. It's the Apple's philosophy of limiting developer freedom I don't like. Apple used to care about developers, now they are becoming like Microsoft, trying to set standard for everything. You have to comply or you are out. So much for "Think different" or being creative as their motto supposed to be.
