I find that very, very hard to believe

I've got 4 ipods (2nd gen old school wheel, 3yrs old iPod, 1 nano iPod (square) & 1 nano iPod) and they all still work

My guess is that people are getting tired of Apple's refusal to offer features the competition have on their smartphones. For example, replaceable batteries, expandable memory, mini-HDMI port etc.

I had to laugh, my buddy recently had to replace a charger that failed for one of his 4 Apple products. He has an iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini, and a MacBook Air. Yes that's right, each device has a unique charger so you he can't use one of the others. On top of that, the new charger was $80. What a joke!

you do realize that your buddy is full of shit, right? The iPhone, ipad and mini latest gen all have the same charger (lightening). Even if he has an iPhone 4 or gen 3 04 older ipad, they all use the same 30 pin charger. The MBA would use a MagSafe charger. That's the only charger that cost $80. The others are $30.

i agree about the memory and batteries. Totally arrogant. But, great way to make people buy AppleCare

No-one likes the new plastic iphones and the 5s does not have enough new about it to be anything special.

Thats why they called it the 5s....it's not that new! Th 5c is for china and India.m

Comparing iOS to Android is like comparing Ford to the whole Auto market - one is a brand the other is a 'platform'....having said that I am disappointed at how closed the Apple products are - I have an iphone, iPad and ipod and chargers and updates re user accounts for each are a pain in the butt - the next tablet I get will be Windows or Android as some software I use for work does not function on the ipad - flash and downloaded products etc.

A friend of mine was a top, long time Microsoft engineering exec and we spoke of this closed Apple ecosystem.

He said that it is less nefarious than based on simple reliability.

Much of Microsoft's resources and glitches are a result of having to support so many brands of devices, memory chips, controllers etc etc. While they are all supposed to meet certain industry specs, the reality of how many get there can cause interoperability conflicts.

Apple decided to simplify things by providing all components.

The user replacable battery is a trade-off with reliability of the latching system etc. The reality is that a $50 replacement is as close as craigslist or Ufixit how-to videos.

The micro sd card would be great but again, reliability and an extra opening are factors, as is Apple's and the whole computer idustrys push to the cloud.

Trade offs everywhere.

Only the official Apple chargers seem to work properly. Using off-brand accessories (even Belkin) don't seem to work that well or less efficiently than the official Apple versions. At least any micro usb charger will work with an Android phone, bluetooth headset, etc.

Having a user replaceable battery is a moot point these days since there are portable USB battery packs that work with every mobile device out there. So when you upgrade your phone, you still have a backup battery. Kingston also makes a wireless SD card and flash drive reader that also houses a battery too for mobile devices. Very smart idea in that you don't need to keep data on your phone any more and can use it on more than one device at a time.

The only problem is that you need to carry a man purse to carry all this stuff around.

Funny thing you say that about official Apple chargers. I went overseas with a Samsung (110 volts to 240 volts rated) plug-in USB power adaptor and an Apple sync cable, and it always worked for me. I sue the same power adaptor and Apple cable at the office and it works.

Speaking about SD cards, I am under the impression that the Galaxy S4 does not have a port for one, much like Balmer phones. Am I mistaken?

Could be that Samsung chargers and Apple cables work fine together (oh the irony.) Maybe it's just the off-brands that don't work that well i.e. TrendNet. I thought Belkin would work pretty well, but didn't work for my friend with their Apple sync cable. Maybe just a bad batch?

Um, that's for personal computers, not phones. And from your same article, just a sentence or two down...this quote:

"Early last month, the ACSI also released its annual rankings for smartphone satisfaction in the United States, which revealed that the iPhone 5 was topped by Samsung’s Galaxy S3 in customer satisfaction."

The entire article is here...http://www.macrumors.com/2013/09/18/apple-tops-personal-computer-customer-satisfaction-for-tenth-straight-year/

That might be relevant in a thread titled "Samsung going down the drain?"

I do have to say I wish Apple would have done that move. I don't want a crazy big screen like the Note, but the bigger Z30 or S4 screen would be nice.
they'll do it in 2014. but first, all you fanboys must go out and buy the latest and greatest... iphone 5s lol they've run out of ideas after steve jobs died and are milking their zombies with small increments to their products. im still using my iphone 3gs and am waiting for an alluminum cased galaxy s5 in 2014 before i jump ship. im off this train wreck of a company (apple)
