The tarantella started out as a Sicilian folk dance, several composers put their spin on it. Wieneaski above and Karol Syzmanoski.

I love this piece too much to just play the opening fanfare.

Having said that Also Sprach Zarathustra needs to be updated. If Iran still followed the teachings of Zoroaster (Zarathustra) it would be a wonderful place. However he has become redundant, the new title should be "Thus Spoke Donald Jehovah Trump".

North German Radio Orchestra.

The tubas have to blast out or the piece turns flaccid.

Henry Purcell was one of the greatest English composers of the Baroque era, born in London around 1659 and active entirely in Westminster until his early death in 1695. His music shaped English sacred, theatrical, and court traditions, and he’s still regarded as the most important English composer before Britten.

this is his most famous piece about lament before death as he pleads to be remembered

Mason Williams composed Classical Gas, he also wrote music for Glen Campbell. Since I can't find Mason Williams live...

January 27 2026 was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 270th birthday. He doesn't look a day over 269, Purcell was one year older that Amadeus when he passed away.

The Russian tradition of great pianists continues.

Correction Nora Lubbadova is Czech, she's only 16.

Air on G strng by Bach

Bach takes a simple, descending bass line and a graceful melody and builds a universe of feeling.
It transforms a basic musical structure ("air" was a simple song-like movement) into something transcendent.
It unfolds with assurance and quiet intelligence. It feels like a revelation received, not a statement made.

It is a bit of a misnomer. It refers to the string it is played on it's played on (the G string) which is its lowest note. This modern arrangement is not what Bach intended.

the original is Bach: Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major, BWV 1068 - II. Air

original Bach: Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major, BWV 1068 - II. Air

not the modern g string variation where the violin gets played on the low g string so the piano can accompany

it is in
D Major not the key of G

Arcangelo Corelli is credited with developing the Concerto Grosso, the forerunner to the modern symphony. It would get taken up by Vivaldi and Handel, most notably by Bach. The Concerto Grosso became the Brandenburg Concertos.

Draper mentioned Henry Purcell. Stanley Kubrick used his Funeral for Queen Ann in a very iconoclastic way!

Where my journey into classical music began.

Has anyone been to Koerner Hall?

It is superior to Roy Thompson as they made a huge mistake in their modern style building.

The never had the technology to do it correctly and sadly misjudged the sound quality.

Koerner has the traditional shoe box shape for true world class sound.
