Anybody Like Classical Music?

In the days I was growing up as a budding classical music
lover Peer Gynt suite was mainly regarded as a piece for
easy-listening program performed in concerts catered
to beginning classical music listening. I guess conductors
in general deemed the piece shallow. It took a terrifying
performance at the hands of Sir Thomas Beecham for me
to experience this music like it is a revelation.

I find the beginning very powerful , even scary, in its delicacy

Glennie has been profoundly deaf since childhood, having started to lose her hearing at the age of 8. This does not inhibit her ability to perform. She regularly plays barefoot during live performances and studio recordings to feel the music.
Glennie contends that deafness is largely misunderstood by the public. She explains that her teacher Ron Forbes taught her to hear with parts of her body other than her ears. She felt the upper drum from the waist up and the lower drum from waist down.

I think she has nailed it

Not a great voice but a great gritty voice for grunge and she explains how hard it is for singers to dwell in the emotions of their personal songs they play over and over

She identifies with this as an opera singer as the songs they sing are of deep pain

It killed Cobain

she really knows how to appreciate a song and coming from an opera singer she validates the greatness of Cobain and grunge in general

Film is rich in symbolism. It ends with the Great Flood of Noah washing away all sin
