In the days I was growing up as a budding classical music
lover Peer Gynt suite was mainly regarded as a piece for
easy-listening program performed in concerts catered
to beginning classical music listening. I guess conductors
in general deemed the piece shallow. It took a terrifying
performance at the hands of Sir Thomas Beecham for me
to experience this music like it is a revelation.

I find the beginning very powerful , even scary, in its delicacy

Amazing piece of composition must have been emotionally draining for Grieg

"When Ibsen asked Grieg to write music for the play in 1874, he reluctantly agreed. However, it was much more difficult for Grieg than he imagined, as he wrote to a friend:

"Peer Gynt" progresses slowly, and there is no possibility of having it finished by autumn. It is a terribly unmanageable subject.
— Edvard Grieg (August 1874)[3]
Nina Grieg, his wife, wrote of Edvard and his music:

The more he saturated his mind with the powerful poem ( the play "Peer Gynt" was written in verse not prose) the more clearly he saw that he was the right man for a work of such witchery and so permeated with the Norwegian spirit."

This is amazing

Glennie has been profoundly deaf
since childhood, having started to lose her hearing at the age of 8. This does not inhibit her ability to perform. She regularly plays barefoot during live performances and studio recordings to feel the music.
Glennie contends that deafness is largely misunderstood by the public. She explains that her teacher Ron Forbes taught her to hear with parts of her body other than her ears. She felt the upper drum from the waist up and the lower drum from waist down.

How time flies, it's been 36 years since Evelyn Glennie won her first Grammy.

Opera singer analysis of Kurt Cobain voice

I think she has nailed it

Not a great voice but a great gritty voice for grunge and she explains how hard it is for singers to dwell in the emotions of their personal songs they play over and over

She identifies with this as an opera singer as the songs they sing are of deep pain

It killed Cobain

she really knows how to appreciate a song and coming from an opera singer she validates the greatness of Cobain and grunge in general

give it a listen

elizabeth zharoff is the singing critic so can she sing?

Interesting stuff Zoot, keep going.
OK

Voiceplay is very interesting acapella group but the star is the low double bass singer ( that is what I call his voice) , who can also sing baritone.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present Geoff Castellucci

35 second mark, 1:35, 2:25 and 3:07 like wow. Sounds like he swallowed a pipe organ

Song was made famous in the beautiful surreal movie

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The film is set in rural deep south during the depression. It follows three escaped convicts searching for hidden treasure and the movie has echos of Homers poem The Odyssey.

Film is rich in symbolism. It ends with the Great Flood of Noah washing away all sin

Both elizabeth zharoff and Geoff Castellucci use straw singing

"So whether you are professional singer, actor, or speaker—or you just want to sing at a night of karaoke—we're here to help you keep your voice in check. The straw is a training and rehabilitation tool for singers, speakers, actors and any other voice enthusist or professional. "

Beethoven's 5th.

Hundreds of conductors have recorded the piece, some great, some good and some limp wristed. Through it all there is only one standard now 60+ years old, Eisenhower was still president when it was recorded.

Berlin Philharmonic directed by Ferenc Fricsay.

Gorgeous Sophie Druml is the polar opposite of Yuja Wang, she's modest to a fault. She needs more ego to match her talent. I'm assuming she enjoys touring with the violin nerds as their piano accompaniment. They are taking up where Victor Borge left off.

Grieg Piano Concerto

Schlepping with the violin nerds.
